I was hoeing the garden yesterday and suddenly noticed this skeletonised seedhead lying on the ground, it looked so delicate and beautiful that I immediately dropped the hoe and picked up the camera :-)

The scene is a 10-image focus stack composite. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights CL/CR fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄64 power through 24" softboxes and triggered by PocketWizard Plus Xs.

Meaning; In Japanese traditional beliefs and literature, onryō (怨霊, lit. 'vengeful spirit', sometimes rendered "wrathful spirits" or "hatred spirits") | are a type of ghost (yūrei) believed to be capable of causing harm in the world of the living, injuring or killing enemies, or even causing natural disasters to exact vengeance to "redress" the wrongs it received while alive, then taking their spirits from their dying bodies. Onryō are often depicted as wronged women, who are traumatized by what happened during life and exact revenge in death.

i’m leaning into the complicated, raw, heartbreaking ways, as a white american, i’m enmeshed with the status quo. a status quo that allowed george floyd and thousands of others to die. five years ago, i began volunteering in prison, teaching meditation and mindfulness. it’s the most meaningful work i’ve done. i’m inspired by the stories of prisoners, raised in hell realms, yet making transformation and change.
i realize my work and my way of being has separated me (in my mind) from racism. racism is over there (not within me—look what i’m doing!), but if i dig deeper, i’m part of the system, not separate from it. as a white person, I’m part of the privileged majority. such turbulent times invite us to wake up. first the pandemic, then a brutally honest look into unrelenting racial injustice. i’m trying to lean in with my whole—tender, raw, loving—heart.

This final exterior picture of the series shows what picture #4 hinted: that, surprisingly, the house is mostly straight except for the implosion of gable in the northwest and the corresponding segment on the northeast. At first glance from the north side, the house seems to have totally imploded.
The south side faces what is probably a small river or else a large stream and has multiple windows on the first and second floors and a porch that is partially collapsed. In its day, before it became enmeshed in vegetation and before the collapse, it would have been a nice farm house in a beautiful location, with primary views south to the river and west. Nowadays, little of the house could be seen while the vegetation is in leaf.
In response to a question yesterday, I peaked into a door that was part of the collapsed part on the northwest side. I shall temporarily post a couple of pictures tomorrow.
