The sun, the clouds, the flowers, a 200mm lens and a nearly broken down car came together to make this shoot easily the best couple shoot that Rushi and I have ever done.

But then, that is true for every shoot we do - 'cept for the broken down car bit. :D

Many people don't know that I shoot weddings, but that's probably because 90% of the work I put on Flickr and 500px is all landscape work - I save all the weddings / portraits etc for the website and Facebook pages.

I'm planning on adding a few (not to many) photographs over the coming year from these types of shoots..

Anyway... This is from a prewedding shoot I did around Durham city on Sunday. We'd been to a few locations including Durham Old Gardens, down by the river, one of the older bridges then ended up here.

By the time we got here (I was hoping the streets light would be on, but alas not!), it was starting to get nippy, so had very limited time - quite f/22 to get the shutter speed down to around 10s and away we went, with strict instructions for them NOT TO MOVE.. they were excellent!

In an ideal world, I'd have shot at f/2.8, through a 10 stop filter earlier in the day. For a couple of reasons; better seperation and more 'blurred' people which I think would have helped the shot a bit more.

Shot with a D800e and Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VRii on a Gitzo tripod.

Engagement shoot in downtown Brooklyn

On Saturday I’ll be going up the coast to Big Sur to photograph a wedding at a small boutique hotel on Pacific Coast Highway. They were students in my photography class about a year and a half ago and asked me to photograph them up there. It’s a long drive up and back, and would have totally stayed if the next day I didn’t have a newborn shoot, a birthday party and then I’m photographing my friend proposing to his girlfriend.

This photo is obviously staged. I’m under this large oak tree about 100ft away yelling at Jimmy & Jennifer “Dip her, come on, put some back into it!” and she just naturally threw her arms up in excitement. But why do these situations need to be created? The best feeling in the world is new love, but why should that wear off? Are walks on the beach at sunset something you only do while dating? Love breaks down when one or both of the participants stop trying.

So raise a glass and toast to everlasting love, may it captivate your soul forever.

Ashlea's grandparents eloped in this old car. When she told me that I knew this shoot would be one that would be remembered. website

This is my first shoot with an assistant and what will become the norm going forward (when possible and on location). Big thanks to Donna for fighting with the umbrella in the wind today!

I took the Leica M9 and my Nikon D800 + Nikkor 200mm f2 AI-s to see if the little Leica could compete. More examples from both cameras to follow.
