I made this lift months ago but the decorations were unfinished until last Friday.
Emulsion of nasturtium petals, placed under a digital photo transparency and exposed to the sun for 7 days in Oct. 2021.
This is what you get when you shine a light on to a mixture of water and cooking oil on the surface of a blank CD. Just by moving your hand in front of the light you can change shapes and colors. Fun stuff to play with.
I have an album of these images if you en joy abstract color and shapes. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157625787156195
Emulsion of pokeberry berries, placed under a digital photo transparency and exposed to the sun for 21 days in Oct. 2021.
Pokeberry is such a strong dye and it takes a really long time to bleach out even a little.
A little change of pace from my usual still life subjects. This is what comes from putting oil on water on a shiny blank CD and then shining a light on it. It's fun stuff to play with.

These colors were created by forming an emulsion of cooking oil and water drops on the shiny side of a CD, and then shining a bright light on to the mixture. I used my 60 mm macro lens focused as closely as possible. The colors can be changed by partially blocking the light, and also by using a mirror to change where the light goes. This is fun stuff to play with. This is straight photography (whatever that is), and not created on a computer, although I used Photoshop to adjust contrast, saturation and remove tiny bubbles and specks of dust. It's not possible to go to the Canadian Rockies or Baja California every day.
More of these photographs of colorful emulsions are in my pretentiously titled Emulsion Art album.

=======================
Picture taken with a Hasselblad 500C/M, Carl Zeiss Planar f2.8/80mm lens, made in 1976; Kodak Aerochrome infrarred film @320 ISO, expired at least from 2011; f16 at 1/250 s., with yellow filter; developed with the C41 kit by Bellini.
This is one of the most spectacular and iconic mountains in Catalonia, the Pedraforca. It towers up to 2506 m. above sea level and it's name means "stone fork" in Catalan.
Without a doubt, the most desired and valued emulsion today (and we're talking about expired film since at least 2011 or earlier) is the Kodak Aerochrome. You've probably heard of it by now if you do analog photography. It is a color infrared emulsion, theoretically to be developed as a slide, but it is often more convenient to develop it as a negative with the C41 process, since it is less demanding on a correct exposure (and it is a lot) , especially now that it's expired. Although it rated at ISO 400 for slides, better to expose for ISO 320 as a negative.

Technical Notes: Minolta XD7. The film emulsion was probably Rossmann's house brand of a ASA400 film, made in Japan, likely relabeled Fuji film sold under the Rossmann brand. This film does not exist anymore. Scanned on a PrimeFilm XAs in RAW with VueScan Pro, then processed in Lightroom with Negative Lab Pro.
Comparison of digital and analogue emusion lift. Both images taken with a Chamonix 4x5 camera. On the left: image taken with Kodak Ektar, then scanned, printed as inkjet print onto a transfer medium and lifted onto watercolour paper. On the right: Image taken on expired Polaroid Type 59 and lifted onto watercolour paper.
While the image on expired polaroid is much more faded, the emulsion is also much softer and more delicate.
