our first empath was schubert the standard poodle, who suffered over each death of one of the dogs. it got progressively worse as he aged and the dogs passed on. each time he suffered I worried that we were going to lose him.
I wondered if any of the others would replace him and his great mourning when he died.
when jones the basenji died the first of october, 2017, just 5 months after schubert, chai stopped eating and sulked around without any energy. he got progressively worse.
it has taken us 2 years almost to the day of creative meal fixing and gentle cajoling to get chai to eat again.
slowly but surely he is eating. regular meals and even sometimes downstairs with the others. knock on wood.
but a lot of time he still dines in bed.

Face à un échec quasi certain, je pris un peu de recul et...

I always tried to take into account shades because one of the practical lessons I learned on my own skin is that humanity is generally made up of shades of gray, and white angels or black demons are not a rule.
But that doesn't mean that when I have a demon in front of me, I don't recognize it.
Alexey Navalny, a critic of the Putin regime, received 9 (nine!) years of maximum security prison yesterday. He was convicted of stealing $ 4 million. This happens in the country that is probably the largest kleptocracy in the world. Two of the lawyers who defended him were arrested at the end of the trial.
Yes, the United States has its sins. Yes, Europe has its weaknesses. Maybe the western world (of which Romania, thank God!, is part today) no longer has the strong leaders from the last half of the 20th century, maybe it still deviates sometimes, maybe it has a lot of gray shades.
But Putin's regime is one of total blackness, a dizzying blackness, a blackness without other drops.
To date, 43 Russian military attacks have been documented on hospitals in Ukraine.
43 - attacks - hospitals! Demonic!
Not recognizing such a demon, or pretending not to see him, makes you partaker with him, makes you part of him.
Whether you're a fine church conservative or a left-wing intellectual empath, or you're taking on cool ecological hipster, not seeing it or looking back from the deep black next to us to various other grays, makes you partaker with the demon, makes you part of it.
And I know that if you had lived in the '30s, '40s, or '50s, you would have been there with him, a partner with him on the Soviet tank, you would have been pleased to see how Holodomor or Gulag crushed the lives of decent people.

Bientôt, la lumière ne sera plus qu’une lueur pâle et diffuse au creux de la vallée… A peine osera telle s’attarder sur la crête enneigée des sommets impassibles… Inéluctable, l’obscurité s’insinuera sous les plis de nos habits sombres et dérisoires. Son ami le froid mordra nos peaux devenues blêmes, et nos cœurs alourdis par la brièveté des jours. Enfouis sous les brumes grises et pugnaces de l’hiver, souvent rude ici, nous finirons par oublier que la lumière renaît toujours des cendres de la morte saison.
Octobre le sait et pleure des myriades de larmes d’or, empathiques et légères, dans la brise suave de l’automne… Un épais tapis d’ambre clair murmure doucement sa peine à chacun de mes pas. C’est un désespoir gai, un curieux et délicieux chagrin aux tonalités joyeuses qui imprègnent la nature et m’emplit d’un profond sentiment de nostalgie et d’émerveillement mêlés ….
Octobre, attendri par mon âme de coquette qui aime à se protéger des épines de la vie dans des laines épaisses et des tissus moelleux, me tricote de généreuses étoles d’amarante, m’offre de vastes manteaux chamarrés et odorants comme des habits de fête, me couvre de bijoux faits de perles de rosée étincelantes plus raffinés que les joyaux des maîtres de l’Orient… Le paysage se pare de couleurs chatoyantes et osées qui me consolent comme les fleurs, parfois, atténuent la cruauté du deuil … C’est un adieu poignant aux matins clairs et insouciants de la belle saison… Le ciel a délaissé l’azur de l’été, et se pare de délicates nuances d’opale annonciatrices de futurs moins cléments… Je m’ennivre de rouges profonds, de bruns chaleureux, de jaunes dorés qui chantent sous le ciel déjà gris… Je remplis ma mémoire des parfums subtils des sous-bois pour que, l’hiver venu, leur souvenir atténue la blessure des rigoureux frimas alpins. Lorsque le vent féroce et imperturbable de Novembre aura congédié parfums et couleurs, je me souviendrai avec tristesse du tendre et mélancolique Octobre

La pie bavarde (Pica pica) est un corvidé de 46 à 50 cm et de 140 à 250 g. Elle peuple aussi bien nos villes que nos campagnes. C’est un oiseau curieux, dégourdi et culotté qui peut vivre plus de 15 ans.
Comme le corbeau, la pie, très intelligente, a de bonnes facultés d'apprentissage et d'adaptation. Elle peut fait preuve d'empathie envers ses congénères et de conscience d'elle-même. Des expériences ont montré qu'elle est capable de se reconnaître dans un miroir
Nous sommes tellement habitués aux faits divers, que leur fréquence de plus en plus rapide, et leur horreur de plus en plus poussée, ne nous étonnent plus. Ce n'est pas que nous y sommes insensibles, bien au contraire. Nous réagissons avec empathie pour les victimes, nous désolons de voir la monstruosité et la bêtise humaine gagner peu à peu du terrain dans notre société…Cela nous touche mais nous gardons nos distances pour nous protéger, avec raison d'ailleurs.
Et puis arrive un fait divers, un drame, une agression, et une victime bien trop proche géographiquement, et sur laquelle on peut mettre un visage, un sourire, une voix.
Et là, c'est le choc… Une véritable tempête qui nous confronte à la réalité vraie et qui va mettre à terre toutes les barrières émotionnelles mises difficilement en place pour survivre dans ce monde de barbares…

Once upon a time Vin and I had started a roleplay world inspired by Jim Henson's Labyrinth; in particular what happened AFTERWARDS. We've decided to create the characters that inhabited this world of the Underground and its King/Queendoms, and bring them to life. It all started with Jareth and Sarah's children and their epic love stories...and its continued on and on through the generations.
What this world means to me and Vin...its more than words can say. We put our souls into this world and what it represents. But it is our pleasure and excitement to be able to bring them to life.
Here we have another of Jareth and Sarah's children: Leiana with her husband Ranec. They were among the more epic (and important) stories and among my favorites. After her brother gave up the Owl throne, Leiana rose and became reigning Queen of the Owls with her Lion prince loyally at her side. Together they brought the Owl lands back from complete destruction and saw it thriving once again. The Owl family name had nearly died out completely as well but it was thanks to them that the Owls found their place in the Underground once more.
As a tortured Empath (someone who could feel and experience others' emotions so intensely that it could drive them to insanity at a young age), Leiana believed she was doomed to live a short life. However when she met Ranec again she discovered he was a Shield (someone who block the dangerous powers of an Empath at a distance). Fate would have it that as children they had met, and Ranec promised to marry her one day; a promise he happily fulfilled.
Leiana was able to live her life surrounded by the family she never dreamed she could have; a life filled with joy, love, and always learning new things. She was an avid reader with 'Beauty and the Beast' being her absolute favorite. She was known for having one of the most brilliant minds the Underground had ever known, but also her wit and for her love of books and roses.
Ranec's life was devoted to his "feathered beauty;" loyal as any Lion and Shield could be. He was known for his big, goofy grins, big hugs, and friendly disposition. He grew up expecting to be King of the Lions but it was never a position he wanted for himself. Upon the arrival of his long-lost cousin Aric, Ranec was able to pass on that throne and join Leiana in the Owl Queendom as the ruling Prince; happier than he could have ever imagined.

16- J'observais hier les étoiles alors que la lune était cachée. Elles scandaient ton nom si fort que j'ai du fermer les yeux. Enfin la lune s'est dévoilée et sa lumière a atténué leurs cris. J'ai repris ma route, le goût doux-amère de ton nom encore dans ma bouche.L.
