Dear all,
The last contest at Picture Gate has not long been finished and we are heading to another one 😊
This one has a bit of an emotional touch for us. We met 1 year ago on May 22nd and this is reason enough for us to kick off one more contest yay
It starts right after this message is posted and ends on Saturday, May 27th 3PM SLT or midnight European time (CET).
Theme off the contest is:
Your best couple picture
Rules:
•We want to see some happy couple pictures up to a moderate level, as simple as that.
•One of the person on the picture must be yourself.
•Add the hashtag #22ndMay (exactly like this) on either the description or in the tag section. Unlabelled photos will sadly not be taken into account, because we won’t find them, nor look for them.
•Date of the shot taken doesn’t matter.
•Color or monochrome, we take it all.
•Try to post high quality photos, they normally grab our attention more.
•Only one picture per member is allwoed. If some posts more then one, we only take the first uploaded into account.
• At least once a day photos will be added to the contest gallery, if the #22ndMay is written correctly in the description or tag section.
•Places 1 – 10 will be displayed in Loony’s Winner gallery. We kindly ask the chosen ones to send us a texture file of that photo inworld, because we plan to display them at the HyDrA Trance Club between June 1st – June 4th.

With wildlife photography especially bird photography we tend to want to have the whole bird visible especially the feet if possible and everything thing in focus from top to bottom. As amazing as those shots are(and trust me they are harder to achieve then you might think) its also nice to play with creative compositions with an attempt a creating emotion in our images.
When I spotted the female Great Horned Owl on the opposite side of the road from the nest I slowly approached in my vehicle. After capturing a few clean "Field Guide" type images I wanted to capture more emotion. I wanted to capture an image that made us feel like we were looking into her world from behind the foliage as she kept a watchful eye on her young. Of course the down pour of rain and droopy ears certainly helped with creating the over all image.
So next time your out in the field get creative. Don't always settle for the bird on a nice perch with everything visible. Lower or angle yourself behind foliage to give your image more emotion or a sense of looking into their world.

I "think" his name is Felix, or it just may be a dream I had. discovered him in a box of art supplies from the auction. He seems oddly silent but happy to be here. Maybe.
(Ken & I have been sick for a month. I have acute bronchitis just now and Ken has a severe sinus infection, compounded by tons of pollen that is in the air here. I also have a cracked rib. Ugh. Don't ask.)
This is one from a short series of experiments I did exploring the idea of macro ICMs with flowers. It’s probably not going to be the area I will make my fortune in…
The problem is they either end up as “eh? What’s that? What’s he trying to say?” type images (and I do enough of those already where at least I know what I might be saying which I don’t here), or as macros that just look poorly focused.
Part of the problem may be the subject. Here it’s the close-up of the centre of a paeony. It doesn’t have a lot of shape or contrast.
Anyway, it’s for your delight and delectation while we move on to something else. I console myself that at least it’s not a panning shot ;).

Developed in Capture One increasing the tonal range and trying to emphasise the colour contrast without adding saturation.
In Affinity rotated, sharpened with USM and used a light vignette. (I also tried Nik Color Efex with this one, but I managed to make it look worse, so abandoned the idea).]

After being the most terrified by the man looking for us at the abdonded mental institution we had the people take a picture of us to capture how exhausted we were.
