Curved bokeh à la Milanese

A quick afternoon capture of a stainless steel Milanese-style bracelet. The bracelet's surface has a multicolour ion plating that lets it shimmer in different rainbow colours, depending on the light incidence. And you know how much I love shiny, iridescent, colourful things ;) I know that the actual focus "line" is wafer-thin, so I thought I'd give it another try, but you already know the answer: I couldn't replicate "the wave" exactly. Of course not, so why did I try to do so in the first place) ;) I think we should appreciate our test shots more, not only that, we should embrace them – I certainly should ;) It's a single shot, illuminated with one single light source from the left, processed with the usual suspects (DXO PL6: sharpness and denoising; Analog Efex and Color Efex). The bracelet's width is 1,7 cm / 0,66 inches.

I have been very lucky to be born, raised and living in a feel-good- bubble in the heart of Europe. Now it seems everything we have build up and accomplished after the cold war is void. A single psychopath and his sick regime are about to turn things upside down. Ukraine's president and population deserve my deepest respect, these guys are just amazing!

As announced, this is a view of the metro station Museumsinsel itself. When I first read that the station was inspired by Karl Friedrich Schinkel's famous set design for the scene of The Arrival of the Queen of the Night in Mozart's Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute; please see the link to Schinkel's design in the description for my previous upload which you can also find in the first comment), I thought "Wow, I can't wait to see it, it must be gorgeous!" And when I finally visited the station shortly after it had been opened, I was a little disappointed because it has none of the lightness and airiness that made Schinkel's set design so special and magical. To me, the station's overall impression is quite heavy, even somewhat oppressing, mainly because of the big, square columns and the fairly low ceilings. All of it probably because a part of the station lies under the river Spree, so there must have been special requirements regarding the station's structure and safety. But still... Somehow, the station even reminds me of modern-day brutalism of sorts, not of beautiful music and a starry night. But that's just my perception.

For Sliders Sunday, here's a selective colour version. I think this image lends itself to that type of editing because in the full-colour version, the dark grey granite from the Fichtelgebirge (Fichtel Mountains) in Bavaria had a yellowish hue due to the lights in the station. I didn't like that at all, so I desaturated all colours except the vibrant blue. This time, I also left the (one) person in the image, for scale. And yes, it was 2021, so the lady who waited at the station wore a face mask.

Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, wishing you a sunny week ahead!

I can't help but the ceiling construction of this Munich subway station reminds me of razor blades 😀

Dear friends, may the new year bring you health, joy and happiness, and be filled with light and beautiful moments for you and your loved ones! 🌞

Staircase in the Technical University of Regensburg. The university also has an "Institute of Scalology", which is the science of the originalities and the appeal of stairs, or in brief, "knowledge of the staircase". This is the only one worldwide - with regard to my photographic obsession quite funny, isn't it? 😄

Capturing swallows in flight is a challenge on its own. Capturing one in full flight from a distance of just 10 meters is like winning a lottery 😊

If you follow me, you have seen this building before 😊 This is not Leipzig but it's close (Halle).

If you don't like walking you can use a boat to get to Abbey Weltenburg. Or take the boat back, if you got too much dark beer in the abbey beergarden 😊

#Beads

A wearable rainbow in the form of a crocheted rope bracelet, made by a friend of my mother's (magrit k.). I also have a necklace to accompany the bracelet but with a diameter of 1 cm/ 0,39 inches (just like the bracelet) it is a little too thick for my personal (neck) comfort.

I've watched a few tutorials on YouTube to understand how this type of bracelet (or necklace) is made, and I should admit that my head was spinning after watching just a few minutes. Crocheting, braiding, or even knitting have never been my favourite DIY pastimes, I'm simply not good at all at this repetitive type of craft. And this style of bead crocheting seems to be super complicated and finicky because the very tiny seed beads (rocailles) are the required main "ingredient". So it definitely was a lot easier (and faster) to photograph the bracelet than to make it ;)

This is a single shot of the bracelet which I'd placed in front of my go-to black foam sheet. The bracelet has a magnetic clasp which I've opened before so I had a single bracelet layer only. I've taken another photo for which I've used the necklace that I had arranged in several layers but that was a little bit too much of a "rainbow colour explosion", plus I also prefer the slightly weird-looking "space worm" shape of the single layer bracelet with the black negative space around. Shot wide open at F/2.8 to get a super tight focus and some nice, bubbly "ball pit" bokeh :)

HMM, Everyone!
