We were losing our minds photographing these higher elevation waterfalls at Mt Rainier NP. The atmosphere was amazing. Couldn't have asked for better conditions.

The Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) in Antwerp, Belgium. The 60 metre high MAS was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects. The façade is made of Indian red sandstone and curved glass panel construction and was finalized in 2011.

Numbers add up.

Twenty-seven minutes after seeing start it up the hill down in Benson, Union Pacific 6066 has made it the nine miles up to the top of the hill at Mescal gaining a total of four-hundred and ninety-three feet in elevation in the process. The four ACs total kept the train of Crown Imports (Benicia), Coiled Steel (Pittsburg) and Gas Products (Port of Stockton) to name a few for Northern California at a good pace as it the train follows the setting sun. Once behind me the train will begin to pick up speed, as it follows the El Paso and Southwestern alignment downhill towards Vail, as the decent into the Tucson Valley is about to begin for this heavy manifest train.

Late afternoon sunlight breaks through overcast to illuminate eastern Sierra aspen groves.

On my early October visit to the Eastern Sierra I was surprised to find quite a lot of color here and in many other places with which I’m familiar. By the date on which I arrived, the high elevation color is usually past its peak, the mid-elevation color is getting good, and the lower trees are largely still green. But this year felt different — it seemed like the higher trees changed later while the lower trees were ahead of schedule, with the result being that the color spanned a wide range of elevations.

On down the East Side, heading from my crossing at Monitor Pass toward my goal further south I passed by this familiar vista. I was surprised by the amount of color and the good condition of the trees, so I made a point of scheduling a return visit in the evening when the trees are usually backlit by the sun just before it drops behind the crest. However, clouds had entered the picture and the light was dull… until a few beams of light broke through the overcast shortly before sunset.

"Elevation:" The view from above Sedona is breathtaking any time of day, but add a sunset glow and it is magical.

This a female Rainbow-bearded Thornbill (Chalcostigma herrani), another of the many spectacular birds that inhabit the higher elevations of the Andes Mountains in Colombia Ecuador and Peru. In good light the display of the male's multicolored beard is dazzling. Unfortunately, on this trip I did not find the male of this species. This image was taken at Termales del Ruiz, elevation 3,500 meters or 11, 500 feet above sea level.

Cinque Torri (sometimes named also Cinque Torri di Averau; German: Fünf Türme) are a small group belonging to Nuvolao group, in the Dolomiti Ampezzane (part of the Eastern Dolomites) north-west of San Vito di Cadore and south-west of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Cinque Torri, as all the other mountains in the area, are made of dolomite, with a particular pale grey colour. The group is formed by five towers (which give the name to the mountain) with a maximum elevation of 2.361 m (Torre Grande). Every "tower" has its own name.

This is one of my favourite craters. I just love the smooth inside area of the crater, both visually and photographically a pleasing target :) Diameter of Plato is 101km. The crater is named after the greek philosopher.

The crater is named after the greek philosopher. Below Plato you'll find Montes Tenerife (diameter: 112km, elevation: 2.4km), Mons Pico (diameter: 24km, elevation: 2.45km) and Mons Piton (diameter: 23km, elevation: 2.3km ). To the right side of the photo there is Cassini crater (57km) and above it Vallis Alpes (155km).

This is the interior of the library of the London School of Economics. It has been an Open House London venue before. I contacted the library and requested permission to visit and they were very accommodating so no long queues and other photographers to contend with.

The NTWLAU manifest heads west through Howard Lake. With no opposing traffic it was easy going for this manifest across the Willmar line. I used my Tahoe for some elevation at this shot, and it worked quite nicely. Was also neat to see an H3 dash 9 on point, since I don't see those too often.

Cleaning my truck up today, found a SDHC card in my storage bin between the seats. It had images of a trip I took on the East side of Mnt. Rainier back in late June. Great find some nice images..

Have a great day..

Some of my worst photos are architectural. But I can say my absolute worst photos are the ones where I am shooting up at the subject. Usually rocks or cliffs. Or buildings. But I have a compulsion to take them. Hence, this photo. The odds for terrible were high; combining elevation with architecture. Nothing good can come from that. But on review of this one, I kind of like it. Which just goes to show that I am an idiot. And sometimes lucky.

This is one of the last shots from the weekend with my Phantom P4 Pro. A 3 shot vertical pano. The sea mist gave an amazing 'out to nowhere' feeling.

“There is no such sense of solitude as that which we experience upon the silent and vast elevations of great mountains. Lifted high above the level of human sounds and habitations, among the wild expanses and colossal features of Nature, we are thrilled in our loneliness with a strange fear and elation – an ascent above the reach of life's expectations or companionship, and the tremblings of a wild and undefined misgivings.” ~ Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu

I spent a cold half-hour on Granville Street Bridge the day before the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games opened. I was there to capture the lightshow over English Bay called Vectorial Elevation. I knew I wanted to post a panorama but have not had the time to do the post-processing. Hope you like it. The lights are controlled by people from all over the world via Internet.
