We all like our A/C units. The trouble is, it takes electricity to run them. Wires like these bring that power from the generation stations into the substations and then into our homes. Various systems use different voltages for transmission. These lines could easily be carrying 500,000 volts. With the wind blowing static electric is generated and stored along the wire. If someone or something touches it, that static will discharge and it will be very unpleasant for whatever received that discharge.
