State-of-the-art lighting technology illuminates the approximately 5,100-m2 glass shell that enwraps the Ars Electronica Center. The LED strips mounted behind the 1,100 glass panes that comprise the façade are individually programmable. Brightness and color mixture can be fine-tuned. There are a total of 40,000 diodes—a quarter each emitting red, green, blue and white. In normal nighttime operation, 3-5 kilowatts of electrical power are all it takes to produce innovative special effects.

As of the day these are being uploaded - April 15, 2014 - it has been two years since the final day of ElecTRONica. And two years later, I still haven't quite come to terms with the fact that it's never coming back. So, to honor today's "Tronniversary", I dug up some of my old photos I had never posted from the final week of ElecTRONica.

Celebration!
In this assignment anything goes!
Find something to celebrate...however small, however large and ...take photographs!
It can be as simple as the bread on your table, the fruits of your garden...
the start of a new day...the end of an old chapter...
it can be something new ...something exciting...
it can be something (or someone?) you usually take for granted.....
it can be full blown party time or a get-together with friends and family....
You can post-process...pre-process..you can stage it ...you can go candid...colour...B/W...anything at all...only make it celebratory!
RESTRICTION: ...here goes!!...
No explanation...no words...no description...no wit... (only exception is the title: celebration)
The reason I'm suggesting this restriction is because a good photo should need no explanation...it should say it all!
Sometimes I find on flickr that I spend longer reading the description than I do looking at the photo so here is a single opportunity to make an image with no back up... take a photo that exudes celebration from every pixel:-)
DARE: make it really personal!
With all Best Wishes, Debs

WIT: At Disney's California Adventure, they turned one whole pavilion into a nighttime dance club/show to promote the TRON: Legacy movie due out in December. While I was waiting for the stage show to begin, I saw this girl start turn on her hula-hoop that lit up with blue and purple LED lights. I didn't have my tripod with me, but I started snapping pics anyways. This is by far the best one that turned out.
The mood for the photo was perfect for the assignment, crowds of people all around, some cheering her on, a sound stage with techno music (Daft Punk was playing, they will be doing the soundtrack for the movie) was playing around us, and the energy was electrifying.
I took a photo of the ElecTRONica logo and layer masked it over-top of this photo. I was debating using some of the other "Tron" type of lighting effects as a border, but I did not want to take away from the energy of the girl.
I absolutely love the lighting and colors in this and want to make it the best I possibly can, so please give me lots of feedback.
