Whilst following the NW electrification I have encountered many pleasant, professional Orangemen who are clearly proud of their work and happy to spend a few minutes sharing their expertise. Today was another smashing example.
Two chaps working on the southern end of Platform 5 told me what's what and readily agreed to use my camera to take shots from a non-public area.
I really appreciate their unselfishness and good humour.

Nice day so I nipped down to take a few photos of the area, no works started for the new footbridge yet although the footpath is marked as closed, still some gaps like between Blackrod and Adlington all the current masts look to have arms."

The line to Blackpool South reopened as planned after a Winter blockade to undertake major route improvement and electrification works on the route to Blackpool North.
Kirkham and Wesham station has been substantially rebuilt with a third platform for the first time ever, bi-directional signalling and a lift in the pipeline.
A train for Preston heads away from the camera. Preston skyline can be seen through the mist.
No sign of any electrification works yet. I took this shot from Bridge 12 which was rebuilt as preliminary work.

Whilst the last phase of Huyton Junction re-quadrupling was taking place services from Wigan to Lime Street were terminating at St Helens Central, with rail replacement buses on to Lime St and stations between. The trains reversed at St Helens, forming northbound services. This entailed using the station's trailing crossover, which had not long been electrified for this eventuality. That crossover is otherwise little used and never normally used by passenger services.
This sequence of shots runs through the track and signalling work needed to perform these manoeuvres.
As passengers alight and board the crossover sequence starts again.

He took this photo looking back towards his vantage point for the previous shot (6820t). That photo was taken from Rumworth Road overbridge which is out of view beyond the curve in the distance. There is nowhere to legally and safely access the tracks between that shot and this other than through a train window or by invitation.
Mast bases (steel piles) can be seen half driven home in the distance. The left hand one as we look at it is shown in Photo 6796i taken a couple of days earlier from a train. This pair APPEAR to be the limit of base-building along this line, HOWEVER there is at least one base driven home nearer the camera than that pair. It can just be made out on the following enlargements, but was shown clearly (and to my surprise) in Photo 6796g which followed 6796i,.
I agree with Wrinkley's estimate that this clutch of bases is approx 700 yards from Lostock Junction at the approximate site of the "SPs" and "SB" shown here:

If you aren't familiar with this stunning software please try clicking on and moving the blue blob at 7 o'clock on its display - is that wowoid, or what?!
Please note the round object lower left of shot. We believe this is to do with drainage or cable ducting, not electrification as such.

A lot of steelwork has gone up north of the station. In this sequence of shots components for the bridge-to-be to replace Red Moss foot crossing are loaded onto rail vehicles and set off on their journey a couple of miles south, where they will be erected, forming the last bridge works between Salford and Euxton Junction.

The shot was taken from Gillets Occupation Crossing.
The footway and 'Beware of the Trains' signs of Heath Charnock foot crossing can be seen between the camera and the rear of the train.
The bridge beyond the train - 'Spencers' - has been demolished and rebuilt as part of the electrification programme.

Cherrypickers mount a Guard of Honour for an East Midlands Trains double 158 on its last lap from Norwich to Lime St.
Note the generally lighter colour of the metalwork to the left of the train as we look at it. This is the amount of new metalwork sometimes replacing and othertimes supplementing 1961 metalwork, as the tracks to the left of the 158s is the Chat Moss line in the final stages of electrification.
Taken from Wavertree Road overbridge looking southeast.
The bridge at the station's west end has always been a fine vantage point, but recent electrification works have exposed its potential for harm.
The parapet is being substantially raised.

Contact and catenary (C&C) wires up above the northbound (Down) track from a point half a mile or so south of Kearsley station northwards to a point north of Green Lane bridge between Moses Gate and Burnden.
In many places the C&C wires are held in place by pulleys and temporary slings; this is normal practice - Team A rapidly gets the wires in the right place, typically using a wiring train, then some time later Team B covers the same ground tensioning and making permanent fixings,
Over the whole stretch the presence of Autotransformer (AT) and Earth wires is inconsistent. This will also be remedied by later passes.
