A heat wave has hit California and boom, the dragonflies are out in force! This fellow landed in a nice spot and allowed me 3 shots. Siskiyou County, California
It was still quite early this morning and poor light, when this buck showed up on our front lawn. We have had as many as a dozen deer these mornings and none that still had their antlers, so it was a surprise to see one that did.
I grabbed the camera and ran to the front window and got this shot as he trotted through. The settings were way off and I had to lighten and sharpen the picture, but since I haven't posted any shots for 2023.... ta da!
Note: You can't see the two antler spikes that are coming up *between the set of antlers. They were about three inches high. Two more tiny ones were starting at the base of each and you can just see one in Large view.
* I actually meant that the little spikes were part of each antler but were down close to the bottom and hard to see from a side angle. They weren't the start of this years antlers.
My 2020 was not much different from my 2019.
I'm not complaining, routine is good for me,
I know that by the way I feel. I'm eight years
old and healthy and strong, never has a sick
day in my life except a couple of Canada Day
hangovers, and considering what's going on
today in the world of humans, there is still little
stress in the naturally tranquil lives puttering
around this old house I live in.
We had special times this past year, of course.
If I had one wish, I suppose it might be that
some of those times lasted longer and came
more often. But I get what I am. I get where
and how I fit into my home...I change my wish:
I wish for every dog in the world to have a nice
home to fit into, and someone who loves them.
And we can still find new special times in the
coming year. Those who have recently discovered
the charm of this area are welcome. As for us,
we will still look for the path less travelled.
Take the usual good care of everyone around you,
my doggie friends, and may the coming year bring
you all peace and good health.
Your admirer and pal, Clancy.
"Ditto."
Thanks, Dad.

Built for the Cotton Belt in 1988 as SSW 8049, former Union Pacific B40-8 1848 is perhaps one of the "newest" locomotives preserved in a museum.
Donated to the IRM by the UP, the 1848 was doing its thing on the IRM's main line in 2014. Hopefully someday the Dash Eight will once again wear the scarlet and grey instead of what it wears now.

Sand coats the underside of the locomotives as Norfolk Southern train 212 climbs the grade out of Shippensburg, cresting here near Lees Cross Roads. The hotshot is running late and most likely won't stop until it's near the destination of Croxton, NJ.
Leading the train is one of the roughly 100 D9-40C's in the fleet; they are being upgraded from 4000 to 4400HP. Over a dozen have already been completely rebuilt to AC44C6M's. If that program continues to do well, it's not far fetched to think these standard cabs will be endangered species in a couple years.
Annapurna Circuit: Dhaulagiri (8167 metres, left) and Annapurna I (8091 metres, right), seen from near Kalopani in Mustang District, Nepal. Evidently, the lighting conditions of these morning shots are very different. Dhaulagiri is to the west, while Annapurna I is to the east and therefore backlit.

Excerpt from www.norfolkandtillsonburgnews.com/news/local-news/bia-ben...:
Eight benches in total were painted by two visual and media artists selected in a June/July contest open to Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour).
“They look amazing,” said Slattery. “It’s really great because they pull in the BIA colours and it’s all about the theme ‘eat, shop, live, explore’ downtown.”
The themes Live, Shop, Eat and Explore were represented on four sidewalk decals with the added challenge of each decal containing just one corporate colour. The decals needed to capture the unique, retail, food, and lifestyle opportunities in the charming town of Tillsonburg. Digitally drawn doodles for each theme were arranged to surround stylized type highlighting heritage stops, shopping, and activities such as Turtlefest as well as the rural nature of the area.’
Each of the artists were able to visit Tillsonburg, explore the downtown and ‘live the life,’ said Slattery, and from there they went to work.
The benches will be located in the downtown along Broadway, or side streets like Ridout or Bridge streets, creating an ‘art path from one end of the core to the other.’
“We want to make sure people know that Downtown Tillsonburg isn’t just Broadway but also the side streets,” said Slattery. “And there’s lots of shops and patios and things to explore along the side streets too.”

I'm eight years old today, November 16.
I got two new Whistler Chuckit balls, a Slim Jim and another Christmas advent calendar. (Hint to anyone buying Whistlers: they don't float so be careful where you use them, we found out the hard way...twice).
I got the same thing last year, which is fine with me-don't mess with what works, I love those Whistlers!
And the advent calendar is super fun, I got very excited last year after dinner as Christmas approached and I got used to what was coming when Dad asked 'Who wants advent treat?', and I would even run into the den after dinner and look up at the calendar in expectation where Dad kept it on a shelf.
Come on, December 1st!
(We've opened a new album for the coming year's photos)

With the weather closing in and rain imminent, it was time to go - but not before trying a couple of shots of this stream emerging from a culvert above and mingling with the Grand River a few feet below. I liked the richness of the greens with just a splash of red in the left corner from a Sumac. Using a warming polarizer and a small aperture, the leaves held still long enough for an 8 second exposure.
In the early evening Rabbitaur and Jilly left on the run.
They could see the snowflakes falling on the leaves of the tree turning the grass white.
The sky turning pink and starry, then when they got home, Rabbitaur took out his camera and put it on the wall neighbor's garden and took a picture of them, before returning to rest in the cozy barn.
