For Smile on Saturday... "Expose the E..." Eggplant.
Many thanks for your visits, kind comments and faves.
From our garden. We were very lucky this year to have healthy eggplants. We don't have very much space in our vegetable garden so we just planted the seedlings in an empty pale of wine. Very thankful for our harvest this year and shared some to our family.

Produce for sale at a local farmer's market, illustrating the subtle variety of colors captured in eggplant skin.
The eggplant slices are fried in hot oil. It must be carefully degreased, as aubergines absorb a lot of fat. Aubergines are often grilled. Slices can be used for this, but the whole fruit with peel can also be used.
I did a similar image last year with a cucumber cut into a heart. In hindsight I wish I would have cut it out so you could see the purple skin of the eggplant. Today I had to resort to using a gelled flash because it was overcast at sunrise.
Does anyone have experience in selling prints that would be willing to share their knowledge? I have only printed a few of my images otherwise they live in my computer or in my feed.
Thanks in advance. I am just trying to find a way to get my work into the world.
Due to the sudden surge of comments and faves, I may have missed yours, my sincere apologies. But thanks everyone, for your support
Artsy fartsy pic of an eggplant I found at a New Jersey Farm Stand.
And... I'm starting to use a tripod sometimes!! So far, just on the pics I do at home. I want to get really comfortable with it at home before venturing out in public (gasp!!) with it. How often do you use a tripod? And do you go out in public with it?? lol.

Me and my camera have been in the bag for the last 4 months. Going to try something new. First attempt at doing still life at home. Who knows?

They hang their heads and the leaves and stems are nice and fuzzy I have never planted them before. I had two little seedlings. I hope the deer don't find them.
Another shot from the Lorton Farmers Market where there's all manner of great, locally grown produce. To protect their customers and veggies from the blazing Summer sun the vendors erect broad fabric canopies over their stands. Being made of somewhat translucent material these shades act just like huge softboxes which accounts for the lighting in this shot. It brought out the more subtle colors and textures and helped to give some dimensionality to these eggplants and tomatillos.
Also the vegetable garden provides beautiful flowers.

yes, eggplant is a fruit. I wasn't very imaginative for my rogue element. And I would normally call eggplant an aubergine but one does have to make alphabetical concessions...
