Action Carting does take time to work with their new clients to properly educate them on their waste disposal systems. Matt says they meet all the staff that will be dealing with waste disposal to teach them what gets thrown away vs. recycled vs. composted and how to properly contain them. While this is an important and helpful measure, it does not account for the high turnover that is likely to occur in the maintenance and operations departments of NYU and thus many who were not employed when they first started using the system were not properly educated on how to use it.
Matt makes sure to reach out to NYU staff while we make the round picking up recycling to inform them that plant matter and other things cannot be recycled. Action Carting does their part and would be willing to go in for a fee to do further education for NYU staff. It is up to NYU to take charge and recognize the need to better and more frequently educate personnel.
