While I had Photoshop open I thought I'd do one of these. It's interesting to see how much people edit their photos (and then laugh at how weak they are) (and by "they" I mean ME)

My house is dark, so even though I regularly use f/1.8, I'm too lazy to use my tripod so I need a fast shutter speed and all my photos are underexposed. I like them dark though so I guess it works out.

Usually my editing process goes like this:

1. Duplicate layer, set it to Screen. Edit levels on that layer until it doesn't look like shit.

2. Pick a random light blue-grey, fill a new layer with it, set the layer to Soft Light. Edit the Hue/Saturation/Lightness on that layer until it doesn't look like shit. (This is for color balance because I prefer cool tones)

3. Use Clone Stamp to erase any flaws that are bugging me like lint or stray hairs. If I miss any and notice them later, cry a lot.

4. If the resin match makes me want to scream, fix it. (Somehow I don't care in person, but in photos I want them to MATCH, DAMN IT.)

5. Flatten, and Unsharp Mask. Admire. Sharpen again. Is it enough? Sharpen it again. Regret later.

Here are the steps if I was not clear:

1. Take your photo on a white, curved poster in an area with high light (I take my photos outside or near a window).

2. Upload your picture to iPhoto.

3. Turn up the exposure until it is almost completely white in the background.

4. Play around with the different levels to make your photo look as clear and high quality as possible.

And your done!

Vista of Cincinnati from over the river in Kentucky

I've completely run out of pictures to edit, and am having a very relaxing, lethargic weekend, so naturally I've decided to go back through some old pictures and completely re do them . A lot of these pictures I had no idea how to create what I wanted before, and it's pretty awesome seeing my style change. Sorry for the impending influx of old pictures, but they'll be new edits, and that's always exciting!
