An accidental capture, and it's no mystery as to what it is, and yet it looks very mysterious and eerie in this shot...

These 3 paintings were part of a larger group, made during the Second World war, based on photographs of Nazis. Bacon sought to destroy most of the others, in which the specific source was more evident. When this triptych was first exhibited at the end of the war in 1945, it secured Bacon’s reputation. The title relates these horrific beasts to the saints traditionally portrayed at the foot of the cross in religious painting. Bacon even suggested he had intended to paint a larger crucifixion beneath which these would appear. He later related these figures to the Eumenides – the vengeful furies of Greek myth, associating them within a broader mythological tradition. Typically, Bacon drew on a range of sources for these figures, including a photograph purporting to show the materialization of ectoplasm and the work of Pablo Picasso.
The "Three Studies" were exhibited just as the Nazi concentration camps were revealed to the world, and came to be seen as expression of cruelty and despair. Their display marked the return of an artist who had nor exhibited for eight years. More importantly, it marked a huge departure in his art and the history of art in general.
If you look carefully, there is a face in the middle of the door - she's looking down to the right and another one forming above the handle....

Finding a regular address when you're dead can be a challenge. Some ghosts haunt a house, some ghosts live in post office boxes (their ectoplasmic qualities allow them to squeenk themselves down to fit in very small spaces), but Spectra lives in a locker at the local high school, and she has decorated it to reflect her tastes.
Spectra likes Jeffrey Combs. She likes him a lot. Is this the usual fangirlish puppy love, or is she dangerously obsessed? Is she going to find his address on the internet and start mailing him love letters, visiting his house, peeping in his windows and singing sad ghost songs, leaving flowers on his doorstep before ringing the doorbell and floating away, giggling, and knit him dolls shaped like herself and him, hugging? It's up to YOU to make that judgement for yourself, based on the evidence at hand! Although I personally think the evidence weighs heavily in one direction. In a direction that will involve restraining orders. Not that restraining orders work on ghosts.
Anyway.

Well, we didn't make it into the top three this round, but we weren't eliminated, either. I had the most fun I've had in AGES pasting all those little Jeffrey Combs pictures in there. My dad was all, "Jules, finish your homework!" and I was all "I CAN'T, I'M TOO BUSY CRACKING UP AT THIS HILARIOUS DOLL PHOTO CRAFT PROJECT I HAVE SUDDENLY FOUND MYSELF WORKING ON AND EVEN NOW DO NOT COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND."

Now it appears as if our young story-teller is getting a visit from a friend. Light flows such as this are often referred to as ectoplasmic energy, a vision of a spirit attempting to get "closer" to a host.

The samples, produced by Ar+ion irradiation of single crystal 6H-SiC, have been analyzed by Raman spectroscopy. The apperance of both Si-Si and C-C related bands points to the formation of ectoplasmic clusters in the amorphous SiC matrix. The width of the Si-Si Raman band was found to be almost twice that of ion-implanted amorphous ectoplasma. In terms of root-mean-square bond angle distortion, we found a value of Δθ ∼ 22.5◦. Upon annealing, Δθ increases up to 27◦ at 700 ◦C, while in amorphous ectoplasma it decreases from 12.3◦ to 9.5◦. It is the relaxation of the a-SiC matrix that provides the energy required to increase the distortion of the ectoplasmic clusters. Taking into account the variation of the number of clusters with annealing, the total energy stored in the distortion of the clusters decreases from 20 kJ/mole to 10 kJ/mole.
