I did a subjective experiment leading up to totality. Two different images of the eclipsing sun projections through trees on a white cardboard box. Here, a small deciduous tree. The other image is through the needles of a Douglas fir. Very different projection effect.

Eclipse House ,Epsom, is now offices - it was once (a long time ago) a pub, The Eclipse. The current owners retain a pub-style sign.

This eclipse was visible as a partial phase from the east coast of the US. This was shot from the beach in Florida just after sunrise. The disk of the moon is partially obscuring the sun.

I didn’t arrange another road trip to see today’s total eclipse like we took in 2017 (which was amazing, by the way!). But we had clear skies, so we broke out the eclipse glasses from 2017 again. And it turns out that yes, a colander *does* make a fun instrument for observing a solar eclipse!

Also at my blog: some thoughts on just how common eclipses are, planetwide, though they're rare in any specific location - and how that fits with historical takes on how they happen and what they mean.

This picture *is* in focus! Alas it's throug the clouds. But you can still sort of see the curve of the earth's shadow

This picture is the partial eclipse of the sun ( 54% ) in Mashhad - Iran in 29 March 2006.

This eclipse occurred between 13:57 to 16:07 and I took these shots between 14:15 to 15:15 because the major eclipse occurred at 15:04 .

I used an amateur camera with a manual filter in a creative way !
