Jumlah arus mudik di penyeberangan Ujung-Kamal pada Lebaran tahun ini mengalami peningkatan cukup signifikan dibandingkan tahun 2006. Berdasarkan data yang dihimpun PT Angkutan Sungai Danau dan Penyeberangan (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Ujung-Kamal, terhitung mulai H-7 hingga H-1 jumlah penumpang yang menyeberang di Ujung sebanyak 239.692 penumpang, sedangkan tahun 2006 hanya 228.091 penumpang. Jadi, jumlah penumpang mengalami kenaikan sekitar 11.000 penumpang.
Petugas Posko Pantau Lebaran di Penyeberangan Ujung, Diyan Fadani, ditemui di Posko, Minggu (14/10) mengatakan, peningkatan jumlah arus mudik Lebaran setiap tahunnya merupakan kondisi rutin di Penyeberangan Ujung-Kamal. Namun, ada sedikit perbedaan Lebaran tahun ini, yakni penumpang lebih banyak yang menggunakan roda dua.
Dengan adanya perubahan itu, sejumlah antisipasi sudah dipersiapkan pihak ASDP di antaranya, pengaturan lokasi dan pemisahan antara kendaraan roda dua dengan roda empat. Sebelumnya, tidak ada pemisahan jenis kendaraan, akibatnya pada lebaran tahun lalu terjadi antrean yang panjang di sepanjang Jl Kalimas Surabaya. “Untuk kendaraan roda dua ditempatkan di lokasi terminal Bus Damri. Ini dilakukan agar tidak terjadi penumpukan dan antrean panjang di sepanjang Jl Kalimas Surabaya,” paparnya.
Selain itu, sekitar 18 armada kapal Ferry sudah disiapkan mengantispasi lonjakan pemudik. Lonjakan arus mudik tidak hanya terjadi pada arus penumpang saja, bahkan kendaraan juga mengalami peningkatan yang besar.
Berdasarkan data yang dihimpun ASDP, mulai H-7 hingga H-1, jumlah kendaraan roda dua yang menyeberang di Ujung sebanyak 69.440 kendaraan. Sedangkan tahun lalu hanya berjumlah 69.196 kendaraan. Berbeda dengan jumlah arus mudik dari Kamal, sedikit mengalami penurunan dibanding tahun sebelumnya. Tahun ini, kendaraan roda dua yang menyeberangan di Kamal berjumlah 23.851 kendaraan. Sedangkan 2006 lalu sebanyak 25.096 kendaraan.
Sementara itu, untuk roda empat, tahun ini yang menyeberang di Ujung terhitung mulai H-7 hingga H-1 berjumlah 21.418 kendaraan. Sedangkan tahun 2006 lalu hanya 21.087 kendaraan. Sebaliknya di penyeberangan Kamal, tahun ini berjumlah 14.416 kendaraan dibanding tahun 2006 yang hanya 14.154 kendaraan.
Memasuki H ke 2 pada hari ini Minggu (14/10), arus mudik di Penyeberangan masih terus terjadi. Berdasarkan data yang dihimpun ASDP terhitung mulai pukul 00.00 hingga 08.00 WIB, jumlah penumpang yang menyeberagan dari Ujung sebanyak 5.590 penumpang, roda dua 1.669 kendaraan, dan roda empat 625 kendaraan. “Sampai hari ini, kami masih mengerahkan 18 armada kapal ferry,” paparnya.
Diyan memprediksi, puncak arus balik Lebaran tahun ini terjadi pada H+6 dan H+7. Alasannya, sebelum H+7 sebagian besar masyarakat Madura masih merayakan tradisi ketupatan di daerahnya. “Setelah merayakan Ketupatan, biasanya mereka langsung kembali,” katanya. *(ris)

MOUNT BROMO
Bromo have known by all of visitor of the worlds. They come to Bromo to watch the sunrise. The visitor also can look down to the crater that full of its smoke, and feel the cold of the air, is probably could only be done in Bromo. Many days later, Rara Anteng birth her first son named Tumenggung Klewung, then followed by other children and they had 25 children. Firstly, they didn’t want to sacrifice one of their children, but they had a sign from Bromo that they must to keep the promise. Finally, their last son named Raden Kusuma had take by Bromo crater as a requirement for Dewata Sang Hyang Agung (God). Next, the misterious voice of Raden Kusuma gave an order to provide half of the harvest to be sent to Raden Kusuma in Bromo Crater every Full Moon at 14th, Kasada month.
Because of that, every full moon at 14th in Kasada Month, people sent Raden Kusuma many kinds of harvest in Bromo mountain. That ceremony, which called “Yadnya Kasada” becomes a tradition (custom) that held up to know.

Jember Fashion Carnival or JFC is an annual event that being held and become particular icon from Jember regency, East Java.

All clothing is made in the form of dazzling and hilarious costumes, and all of which are competed to win prizes.
All the participants were made, represent and show their own costume, including the makeup, hair style and other details to show. Hence, for all the participants that join this carnival get free short training regarding the fashion designing, fashion runaway, dancing, presenting, singing, makeup and hair styling.

A new type of structure which appeared during the Majapahit era was the Bentar temple, or split gateway. As to the origin of this form, there is no certain answer. The earliest known example, of which only the foundation remains, appears to come from the complex of Penataran temple. Dates equivalent to the year A.D. 1320 are inscribed on two stone guardian figures which seem to have been connected with the gate. Another Bentar temple, also in a ruined condition, can be seen at Jawi temple. According to the Nagarakertagama, this temple underwent reconstruction in 1331, which implies the possibility that the gateway was already in existence around the year 1300. Yet the wording of the text is not clear enough to draw a positive conclusion.
One gateway of this type which is still standing, and which is currently undergoing restoration, is Wringinlawang temple (or Jatipasar), located among the ruins at Trowulan. Wringinlawang is generally considered to have been the entrance gate to an important complex of buildings in the Majapahit capital, but its exact age is unknown.
Bentar temple are also found carved in relief on the walls of a number of temples, notably at Jawi and Jajaghu. The latter, which is known to have been the memorial shrine to King Wishnuwardhana of Singosari (d. 1268), invites the suggestion that these split gateways must therefore have been in use as early as the mid-thirteenth century. However, the style of the reliefs suggests a later date than that of the original monument, and they are thus considered to have been carved during the reign of King Hayam Wuruk of Majapahit. The conclusion to be reached from all this is that Bentar temple were almost certainly in use from at least the early years of the 14th century.

Cheaper motorcycles have also made the dokar obsolete, and parking spaces that were reserved for dokar in the past are being overrun by motorcycle parking. People prefer to use motorcycles to avoid traffic jams and carry produce.
Many kusir, or horse-cart drivers, have driven dokar all their lives as a family tradition, passed down from father to son. Given the challenges they face today, some kusir choose to look for work in areas like construction or to move their dokar trade to the city parks area.
Now, the dokar became recreational facilities for small children only. They driven around the district and the city park while listening to the tinkling of ornaments on the horse.
For Slamet of Probolinggo, a 35-year-old kusir who works in Surabaya, an ordinary workday starts at 8.00 a.m. and finishes around 9 p.m. and will see him take home around $8 a day. Time off for rest at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Of his income, he had to share with the horse owners 50:50. He says, it is harder to survive and it’s a lot of work for not much money. He’s unsure if it is a profession he would like to see his son continue.
Slamet has been working as dokar driver since 2000. He did not bring his family moved to Surabaya, because the cost of living in Surabaya is much more expensive than probolinggo, his hometown.

The inhabitant made thousand of Tumpeng or it calls as Tumpeng Sewu. Hence, Banyuwangi's Thanksgiving is being called as Tumpeng Sewu ceremony.

Gerbong Maut Monument
On November 23, 1947 the history has wrote with a golden pen about the heroically battle of Bondowoso society against the Dutch colony. 100 civil soldiers were carried by three cars. The car number GR.10152 contained 30 people, the car number GR.446 contained 32 people, and the car number GR5769 contained 38 people. The people were carried by train from Bondowoso station to the jail at Kalisosok Surabaya. Those carts departed from Bondowoso train station at 03.00 a.m. The soldiers who were in those cars felt hot and stuffy because the lack of air inside those cars and they pushed each other to get the air through the small holes on that broken cars. The worst thing was that those cars' walls were so hot because of the sunshine. The soldiers were dehydrated, and the result of this happened was 46 people of 100 people were dead. That historical moment had known as Gerbong Maut Incident, and Gerbong Maut Monument was built to memorize this deadly incident. It has become an important historical monument of Bondowoso. This monument is located in the heart of Bondowoso city and to remember the dedication of those heroes to this nation, it is held a ceremony on the hero day every year.
