Cellular module from sparkfun inside an old rotary phone. (the cell module takes a SIM card) Everything on it works: it can dial out, make calls, and you can have a conversation. It can receive calls too, and the ringer works.

 

The best part? It's entirely portable and wireless, running off of a Li-ion cell.

 

The bad part? You can't check your voicemail since cell carriers don't support pulse parsing over their network (dammit!)
