From Peakirk I was heading out into the Fen. Ahead of me, less than a mile off, was the grand tower of Market Deeping church, but for the first time since I first did Suffolk in the 1990s I resisted heading towards a church simply because it was in a different county. Market Deeping was in Lincolnshire, and that would mean crossing the border. No. I was doing Cambridgeshire. So I diverted westwards for Northborough.
The church was locked with a keyholder notice, but the Vicar was just arriving to get herself ready for a wedding. She opened up for me. She was very nice, and amusing about the building and its history. 'The church is more curious than beautiful' says Pevsner, which is an understatement. This was a towerless Norman church like Peakirk, but instead of undergoing the subtle elaborations there, a massive perpendicular castellated transept was added to the south side on the eve of the Reformation. It is bigger than the rest of the church put together. It was built by the Claypole family of Northborough Hall, and several of them are grandly memorialised here. Of more interest perhaps is that the family provided a wife for Oliver Cromwell, who was you may remember a Huntingdonshire man.
After Cromwell's death she retired back here to Northborough, and is buried in the transept. The vicar didn't think much of the Claypoles, or of people who aggrandize themselves in general, but in fairness to the Claypoles, they must have intended to rebuild at least the south side of the church as it is clearly a temporary join to the aisle within. Unfortunately, the Reformation intervened, and the clumsy join is still there 500 years on. Apparently it leaks like a sieve.

Slave houses are rare survivals in Virginia; few having withstood the burden of time. Those at Ben Venue are unusually solid and have the rarity of architectural elaboration. The Ben Venue complex is attributed to James Leake Powers, a local builder, who is credited with a number of buildings in the county. The house was constructed between 1844 and 1846 for William V. Fletcher, a prominent landowner, and has remained in the possession of his descendants.
The interiors contain unmarked log rafters and log joists. An original ladder stair survives in one building.

This year was my fourth visit to Diverxo Restaurant in Madrid and my first visit to the new premises.
This is the 1970s dish that we had to eat listening to that god-awful French music. This dish has thirteen different elaborations:

This church, inserted into a domed pavilion of the ancient Baths of Diocletian in the 1560s, was finally finished in the eighteenth century. This coffering is an elaboration of the original ancient surface.

living/bed rooms - the large raised platform to the right is the bed - burning wood/coal would be placed in a hearth underneath (just out of frame), warming the stones. These brick-vault rooms are, apparently, an elaboration of the (ancient) carved-out cliff dwellings (still) common in this area...

Friesen visited first the Altstaedter citizen school in Magdeburg. Its teacher was George Samuel Albert Mellin, who brought Friesen already early the ethics Immanuel Kant close. 1801 and 1802 learned Friesen at the building academy in Berlin among other things. Land surveying, was interested then however more strongly in Paedagogik and philosophy. It was consulted from 1806 to 1811 by A. v. Humboldt for the elaboration of the Mexican Atlas and worked, inspired by Johann God-dear Fichtes "speeches to the German nation" since 1808 with Friedrich Ludwig Jahn and William harnisch together at Johann Ernst Plamanns after Pestalozzis principles of furnished educational establishment. In the years of the reason of the German turn art by Jahn it participated actively. It created 1808 a fencing soil company, in which apart from fencing also political discussions, before which by Napoleon occupied, took place background of the 1806 native country. Friesen led the turn artist association in Berlin occasionally, developed many new turn exercises and based at the citizens of Berlin Unterbaumbruecke one of the first German institutes for swimming. 1808 it was active as scouts for Ferdinand of Schill and its military group and spied in Magdeburg. Together with William harnisch, Friedrich Ludwig Jahn and other one he created 1810 the German federation. This secret federation pursued the goal of an armed collection and a moral renewal of the people. Friesen wrote the memorandum "order and mechanism of the German Burschenschaften" together with Jahn and had a substantial portion to the Burschenschaftsbewegung. He prepared 1812 actively the collection against Napoleon. 1813 was it in community with Adolf baron von Luetzow one the main solicitor and Gestalter of its free crowd, to which it belonged then as officer and an aide Luetzows. It escaped the assault with kitzen together with Theodor of grains, which died then with Gadebusch in its arms. It became 1814 a victim of the German wars of liberation. After the assault of the Priest Russian-Prussian corps by Napoleon von Reims into the Ardennen blown up, he was imprisoned taken on 16 March at the village La Lobbe with Rethel and killed with a hand mixture. It took place a longer search for Friesen. 1816 found its friend August von Vietinghoff the mortal remnants. An appropriate funeral was due to the political situation, due to the waiting castle celebration (1817) and (Demagogenverfolgung) (1819), first not possible. Its Gebeine rest since 1843 on the invalid cemetery to Berlin beside those of crowd refuge. Its hometown Magdeburg honoured it among other things by the designation of a road (Friesenstrasse). Furthermore a monument with the label is located in Magdeburg beside the former house of the German Soviet friendship: "like crowd refuge among the old persons is Friesen among the boys of the Groesseste of all remaining". Nowadays the Friesenkampf, a sporty multi-fight, is designated after it.
FRIESEN in 1812/1813 took participation in Lutzow Freicops as volonteer.

Created under the leadership of the mayor of Rome Francesco Rutelli, the Italian Ministry of Culture in 1998 decided to launch a project for a vast national museum. The name MAXXI (National Museum of XXI Century Arts) is chosen in reference to MACRO (another modern museum in Rome). I now understand why tourist coming to the gardens of Peterhof (a royal summer retreat near St.Perestburg, Russia) have to pick up their jaws off the ground. The Russian tzars took the French idea alright, but they went way beyond the references in lavishness and elaboration.

The elementary school years are the Golden Age of Childhood because they are a time of slow, even, physical growth and great leaps forward intellectually and socially. It's a time for both girls and boys to play soccer and have a best friend, to go on sleepovers and become ardent fans of a favorite baseball or football team. And it's also a time to ride bikes in the park, eat ice cream on a lazy summer afternoon, have carefree moments with nothing to do and get absorbed in a good book.
What a wonderful time for parents! Children between the ages of six and eleven or twelve can take care of themselves in regard to eating sleeping and hygiene. For the most part they cause little trouble, listen well and most importantly; they like and admire their parents and want to spend time with them. Mom and Dad really are the greatest! Enjoy it, folks. Unfortunately, such admiration is short-lived, soon to be replaced by the uncomfortable but necessary distancing and disdainful scrutiny of every parental word in adolescence, which is just around the corner.
