The Booted Racket-tail is an Andean hummingbird found from Colombia and Venezuela south to Bolivia. This is a spectacular hummingbird - males have a short blackish bill, metallic green body, black wings, and elaborate tail. The tail is long and green, and the central two rectrices are extended with bare rachises tipped with blunt "rackets". Females are white below with green speckles and a white-tipped tail lacking racketed elaboration.

Both sexes of Booted Racket-tail show puffy white leg feathers. This very small hummingbird favors humid woodland edges in mid-elevations in the Andes.

""The Scaldis lock is a lock on the Nederschelde in Ghent. This lock was commissioned in 2012 in the context of the reopening of the Nederschelde arm, end of 2018, in order to restore Portus Ganda as the point of confluence of the Leie and the Scheldt. It is part of the Ghent elaboration of Water in Historic City Centers. The lock has a slope of 1.16 m and thus bridges the difference in height of the water level between Leie and Scheldt.

The construction of the lock on the Oude Beestenmarkt was started on 22 September 2010. The lock was necessary because the water level of the Nederschelde, and the other watercourses in the Ghent city center, is approximately 1.2 m higher than the water in the Leie on the Nieuwbrugkaai and Portus Ganda. The Scaldis lock was completed in the summer of 2012, with a slide-off for kayaks. The plans were to have the Nederschelde or Reep reopened by the end of 2015. However, this was adjusted to the beginning of 2018 due to extra work required on the old quay walls. The Nederschelde was then reopened in September 2018.

The name 'Scaldis lock' refers to the Latin name of the Scheldt.""

Pukao, the headdresses of the moai.

The pukao were large cylinders made of volcanic red slag that adorned the heads of the Easter Island statues.

The pukao is an ornament, made with red scum from the Puna Pau crater, which was placed on the head of the statues of the most important ceremonial platforms on Easter Island.

Several archaeological studies indicate that the manufacture of the pukao occurred in times after the elaboration of the great statues, some even suggest that the extraction works in Puna Pau began when the quarries of Rano Raraku had already been abandoned.

In comparison with the almost 1,000 statues recorded, only about 100 pukao have been located, 70 of them demolished in the vicinity of the ahu and another 30 that still lie in the Puna Pau quarry. It is possible that there are more pieces buried in the paths or incorporated as recycled construction material into the ceremonial platforms themselves, making it difficult to define the total number of pukao that were carved.

This mismatch between the number of pukao and statues is explained because the pukao were added only to the moai that stood on certain selected ceremonial altars. In fact, these places already stood out from the rest for a very elaborate architecture, such as can still be seen in the Ahu Nau Nau on Anakena beach, the Ahu Hanga Te'e in Vaihu, the Ahu Akahanga or the impressive Ahu Tongariki .

With their incorporation into these ceremonial centers, the pukao further enhanced the images of the ancestors, as they gained height and were more imposing. This increase in monumentality is consistent with the hypothesis that the development of the pukao would be associated with the growing competition between tribal groups, who manifested their rivalry, making bigger and bigger moai on more elaborate altars.

At Saschatamia Lodge - Ecuador. One of the cutest!

The white-booted racket-tail is an Andean hummingbird found from Colombia and Venezuela south to Ecuador. This very small hummingbird is quite spectacular, as males have conspicuous puffy white leg feathers and a long and green tail, with the central two rectrices extended, with bare rachises tipped with blunt "rackets." Males have a metallic-green body and black wings, while females are white below with green speckles, have a white-tipped tail lacking racketed elaboration, and have smaller leg puffs. This species favors humid woodland edges in mid-elevations in the Andes. The taxa in the genus Ocreatus have been considered as either two (Ocreatus underwoodii and Ocreatus peruanus) or three (with Ocreatus addae) members of a superspecies, or as subspecies within the white-booted racket-tail. Here, the present species, Ocreatus peruanus and Ocreatus addae are recognized as full species.

También llamadas Cuevas del Vidrio porque en ellas se extraía, todavía a mediados del siglo XX traquita volcánica o "arena blanca", materia prima para la elaboración de vidrio (en el bosque hubo un horno para tal fin en el siglo XVI; más recientemente se hacían botellas y otras piezas en una vidriera que había en la ciudad de La Laguna).

Also called Caves of Vidrio because they were extracted in the mid-twentieth century by trachy volcanic or "white sand", raw material for the elaboration of glass (in the forest there was an oven for this purpose in the sixteenth century; more recently bottles and other pieces were made in a glass factory that was in the city of La Laguna).

Stavo in un momento no, senza idee, testa vuota, giorni che studio cosa postare per l'Anno Nuovo cercando qualcosa di differente dagli anni scorsi, setacciando foto vecchie e nuove, niente mi convinceva, alla fine son caduto su questa elaborazione di un bacio ed 8 sorrisi di 9 amiche fatta anni fa per gioco ed ho pensato: eccola!

Chiedo scusa a tutte le flickeramiche perchè forse avreste preferito baci e sorrisi maschili, ma sono difficili da scovare in casa mia, sin da bambino io ho avuto sempre un debole per le femmine, scusatemi ed accettatelo perche lo posto con affetto sincero.

I was in a bad moment, out of ideas, empty-headed, days spent studying what to post for the New Year, looking for something new, different from previous years, sifting through old and new photos, nothing convincing me. At the end, I stumbled upon this elaboration of a kiss and 8 smiles from 9 female friends I made years ago for fun, and I thought: here it is!

I apologize to all the female flickers friends because perhaps you would have preferred male kisses and smiles, but they are difficult to find in my house. Since I was a child, I've always had a weakness for females. Forgive me and accept it because I post it with sincere affection.
