VIRTLANTIS is a free resource and open community of practice for language learners and teachers in the virtual world of Second Life®. We offer free informal language learning activities for a growing number of languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Chinese, etc. All of our activities are offered free of charge by volunteer language teachers and/or native speakers.
Everyone is welcome to offer a language activity at VIRTLANTIS. We provide free resources and ongoing support. We also collaborate with and promote other language communities in Second Life.
In addition to our main island and the various social meeting points at Knowingly, we have additional locations which can be used when needed.

In addition to providing our main island as a free resource, we now have a second island which can be used for special language or culture related events such as presentations, workshops, seminars, roundtables, conferences, demos, concerts and parties!
Our new "Paradise Island" can be used free of charge by anyone who needs a private or public space for a large event (maximum 20 avatars). We gladly provide additional support and resources on an as needed basis. We can also modify the look and feel of the island to help create the ideal atmosphere for your event.

El director de la División de Organizaciones Sociales (DOS), Javier Acuna Maturana, entregó certificados a dirigentes sociales de #PuertoMontt por haber aprobado los cursos E-Learning “Escuela de líderes sociales”, impartido por la Universidad San Sebastián, y “Herramientas básicas para el Liderazgo Social”, a cargo de la U.Chile. Los alumnos valoraron la instrucción recibida y la autoridad, su compromiso.
El director destacó el entusiasmo de los dirigentes y también pidió un reconocimiento para los profesores “que les entregaron herramientas a ustedes que se esforzaron, estudiaron y aprobaron".
En la ceremonia también estuvieron presentes importantes autoridades de la región de #LosLagos como la seremi de Gobierno Ingrid Schettino, su par de Educación, Claudia Trillo, y el seremi de Trabajo, Fernando Gebhard.
La actividad fue cubierta por la prensa local, como el Canal 5, el Canal Vértice, algunas radios y medios escritos.

En #Valdivia se vivió una emotiva jornada en entrega de certificación del curso E-Learning "herramientas básicas para el liderazgo social" realizado por la @Segegob, la @dos_segegob y la @uchile y en la que se capacitó a dirigentes sociales quienes, orgullosos, se comprometieron a construir un mejor país. #ElChilequeQueremos #DOS ✌🆑
On 6 March 2018, the UN CC:Learn global partners met in Geneva, Switzerland for the 8th UN CC:Learn Steering Group Meeting. Partners from FAO, ILO, IOM, UN Environment, UNECA, UNESCO, UNFCCC, UNITAR, UNSSC, UNU, WFP, WTO participated to discuss the arrangements for the 2017-2020 phase of UN CC:Learn, launched on September 2017.
The meeting focused on UN CC:Learn’s key messages and impact. New activities to promote global climate change literacy were also discussed, including the expansion of the e-learning platform with additional features, languages and products, as well as up-scaling of UN CC:Learn flagship initiatives.

En el marco de su visita de trabajo a #Concepción el director de la División de Organizaciones Sociales (DOS), Javier Acuna Maturana, asistió a la certificación de un grupo de 60 dirigentes sociales de varias comunas de la Región del Biobío que aprobaron el curso E-Learning "Herramientas básicas para el Liderazgo Social", impartido por la Universidad de Chile.
La actividad se realizó en el Salón Mural del auditorio Gregorio de la Fuente, y contó con la presencia de importantes autoridades locales como el intendente Sergio Giacaman, y la seremi de Gobierno Francesca Parodi.
El director, junto con felicitar el esfuerzo de los dirigentes, destacó la importancia de su perfeccionamiento porque dijo que son el nexo imprescindible entre la comunidad y el Ejecutivo, ya que iluminan a las altas autoridades sobre los pasos a seguir en busca de mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas.
En tanto la seremi destacó las ventajas del curso impartido, porque les permitió acceder al conocimiento a dirigentes de lugares apartados, que de otra forma, no se habrían podido capacitar.
