Research test car EA7051 is seen camped out in its regular hiding spot, under the motorway at Thorndon depot in Wellington.

This car type is known in other parts of the world as a Dynometer car, and is packed full of measuring and monitoring equipment, deployed when new or modified railway equipment requires testing before entering into service.

EA7051 began life as a humble FM class freight train guards van, imported in the mid 70's.
