A new ink pen drawing, capturing the warmth and power of a smile that lights up the world. There’s a unique strength in simplicity β€” line by line, her joy shines through. 😊

️ Ink pen on black paper.

Echoes of History ✨

This mixed-media piece blends a portrait with thought-provoking words like "History," "Honesty," and "Heritage" to reflect on the powerful themes of identity, resilience, and legacy. The stark contrast of black and white in the portrait, coupled with the torn, textured paper, evokes a sense of timeworn strength, while the handwritten words float like whispers from the past.

️ Medium: Ink and mixed media

πŸ“œ Concept: A tribute to the enduring spirit of history and the values that shape us

🌟 Art that tells a story through texture, form, and words.

Dive into the bold, thought-provoking world of contemporary art with this immersive black-and-white text installation at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. This dynamic artwork transforms the museum floor into a sprawling, chaotic canvas of powerful words, phrases, and illustrations. The artist’s white-on-black technique commands attention, inviting visitors to physically walk through and interact with a narrative woven directly onto the ground.

Phrases like "THE DAY THE FIRES IN CALIFORNIA TURNED THE SUN AND THE MOON RED" and "EAST COAST" leap out in energetic brushstrokes, capturing social, political, and environmental themes with raw intensity. From references to natural disasters to questions of digital connectionβ€”β€œWE LIVE WITH THE LEGACY OF GLASS”—each fragment demands reflection on contemporary life’s complexities.

As visitors step across this visual tapestry, they encounter faces, figures, and scenes that evoke protest art and street culture, challenging them to engage on both personal and societal levels. The installation’s scale transforms a simple walk through the gallery into an active journey of discovery, contemplation, and dialogue. The artist’s black-and-white palette underscores the stark realities and urgent calls to action that define this work.

The Hirshhorn Museum continues its mission to showcase innovative, boundary-pushing art that provokes conversation and inspires change. This installation exemplifies that mission, bridging the gap between visual art and literature, between protest and poetry. It’s a place where every step becomes part of the story, where visitors become participants in the creative process and are left pondering the deeper messages beneath their feet.

For art enthusiasts and casual museum-goers alike, this installation offers a memorable experience that challenges perspectives, sparks conversation, and leaves an indelible impression on the soul.

Hope one day this photo gets back to her!

Link to the photoset of the delivery to LAN Airlines on 15 June 2012 of CC-BDD, a 767-316(ER). Later that 2012 this aircraft got winglets.

In 2015, CC-BDD got tail art advertising Copa AmΓ©rica 2015, the main international football tournament for national teams in South America, and currently taking place in Chile between the dates of 11 June to 4 July 2015.

So three years after delivery, it was arguably time to uncork the archives for my followers. Enjoy and share responsibly!

Enjoy!

The Tomcat was the last fighter of the last true fighter squadrons of the US Navy - nowadays the USN uses Fighter-Attack Squadrons since most air combat missions have an air-to-ground component. The Tomcat never lost an air-to-air engagement for the USN, unlike sadly the F/A-18C once.

Nonetheless, the Tomcat was also quite the air-to-ground platform over Iraq in various 1990s air policing operations leading up to the 2003-2006 sunset of its service liberating Iraq. Now many of its innovations such as the big screen to work the IR pod plus the Vulcan cannon plus an innovative power have been renewed in the E & F Super Hornets.

I hope every fan of naval aviation gets to see a Tomcat up close & personal. Not just on Flickr w/ my Tomcat photos but for real! However if you must make do w/ Flickr for now - here you go.

P.S. My friend David Brice is CEO of IRIS Simulations which makes a payware version for Flight Simulator X/FSX. Currently as of 3 November on sale at link.

My ink pen drawing capturing the raw intensity of youth. With bold, expressive lines, this artwork speaks to the complexities of adolescence β€” where emotions are turbulent, yet identity begins to take shape.

With NAS Whidbey Island in 8 days doing another open house on 19 July, time to post another photo to my 2011-07-30 NAS Whidbey Island CoNA Celebration album. Very much appreciate NAS Whidbey Base CO Captain Mike Nortier and NAS Whidbey Public Affairs Officers Mike Welding & Tony Popp putting this together.

Loads of blue out of this picture, but considering I worried about rain most of the day... relieved to see blue sky. Also like the dramatic effect while the Light Rail is safely at the station.

This Dreamlifter came from South Carolina in the wee morning hours. I really like the composition and hope you do too.

I also took this photo in FZ70 Dynamic Art HDR mode :-).

Especially with the sunrise sky :-). Photo ops like this are rare & far between.

I also took this in Lumix FZ70 Dynamic Art HDR mode :-).

Decided to go High-dynamic-range/HDR here so as to expose both the cockpit and the outside. Makes for a good cockpit picture, eh?

For my Kenmore Air flight - taken in FZ40 Dynamic Art HDR to make the colors more vibrant. Just my taste. Best viewed orginal size.

N606KA is a DeHaviland DHC-3 Turbo Otter originally built in 1954 with the turboprop installed on a later date. Had a great time enjoying Kenmore Air - highly recommend doing at least once in one's Seattle travels.

Figured nobody else would capture this landing in HDR, so here you go! I sure like the colors, don't you?

Nice little aerobatic biplane. I wouldn't want it because I couldn't pull off my aerial photography hobby from it.

But sure looks great in FZ40 "Dynamic Art" HDR mode!!!

A beautiful sight, especially as the FZ40 proceed the colors into Dynamic Art (HDR). Full size if you like.

Hey, some things just deserve to be explored as art, eh? Certainly when these blended winglets are so artistic!

Make sure to check out the set!

From the plaque below the blended winglet exhibit:

The Future Is On The Wing

This Blended Winglet was test flown on a Boeing 747-200 in 2000 to prove the viability of Blended Winglets for big transport aircraft.

Blended Winglets are gracefully curved wingtip extensions that measurably enhances the aerodynamic efficiencies, flight characteristics and environmental benefits of corporate and commercial aircraft.

Aviation Partners of Seattle introduced the patented Blended Winglets in 1991. They are now flying on airliners and corporate jets worldwide saving fuel and protecting the environment.

The Museum of Flight is grateful to Aviation Partners, Inc. and Aviation Partners Boeing for their enormous contribution to the world of flight and aerospace.

At very, very low altitude. It was awe-inspiring to look through the FZ40 viewfinder, standing up, all excited and here is this jet version of a chorus line coming by. I just wish I could convey the nose, the excitement, the joy... but this will have to do.

Full, original resolution if you'd like. Great Dynamic Art HDR capture by the FZ40!

Quoting verbatim from the USAF Facebook page:

"The time has come; I’ve officially locked the door to the Demo Office, hopefully not forever. Reflecting back over the last few years I get somewhat emotional. I’m filled with sadness as I walk away but yet I find myself with a smile on my face. I’m smiling because I’m thinking back to all the good times, the people that I’ve became friends with, the stories that we’ve shared and the adult beverages that we have partaken in over the last few years. I’m thinking of all the great times, that places I’ve been and how I will miss the family that I’ve became a part of...that is the sad part. However, I’m happy to have just been a part of this experience. I can honestly say this has been the best Job I have ever held….I was a member of the USAF F-22 Aerial Demonstration Team and the air show family that I traveled city to city with. This experience has been a huge honor, I will miss all of this….I will miss each of you! I now head back to the Operational Flight Line here at Langley AFB, assigned to the 94th Aircraft Maintenance Unit where I hope to stay until I retire. Just know if there is an air show close to my location, I’ll try to sneak into show center or the performer area for a visit. I’m sure it will not be as easy as strolling through security in my flight suit, but I’ll get in there somehow. Ha ha. Good luck and best wishes to all my friends and family, I hope our paths cross again soon. Take care. Bo – Raptor Demo"

Sad for America. We paid hundreds of millions for these quality combat aircraft, now many will be ignorant of our heroes' sacrifice.

I thank very much we have an Air Force, especially as my father works in downtown Seattle to hold corporate America to account. That could be bordering on impossible if another 9/11 were to hit America... and it is the Air National Guard that is the goalkeeper against another attack. For that, I'm eternally grateful.

Just doing one of those fun things I love doing... taking photos in HDR, of a sunset in Seattle.

I agree.

From The Everett Herald: "It cost $32.38 per boarding to operate Sounder North in 2011, compared to $10.19 for Sounder South, according to the report. The cost for the entire system, buses included, was $12.71. ... When the first Sound Transit sales tax measure was approved by voters in 1996, daily ridership for Sounder North was projected at 2,400 to 3,200 per day by 2010, the report said. Since beginning in December 2003, its high has been 1,200 boardings per day in June 2008; the low, about 700 in December 2010."

Clearly this may be a better fate for Sounder North... sitting in a railyard waiting to backup Sounder South. Or to be sold somewhere. Or as an extension of Sounder South.

Great mural in Seattle's Industrial District, as seen from Sound Transit Light Rail and taken in my FZ40's Dynamic Art HDR Mode. Many Washingtonians - and I suspect my Oregonian contacts too - have absentee ballots to vote on. Thought I'd remind you guys to please vote, the earlier the better.

Hope King County keeps Jane Hague... and all the transit measures pass around Washington State. Seriously.

I did some post-processing on a ZS10 Dynamic Art HDR photo and got this!

The Ford Mustang in red is a Saleen 302 Yellow Label speed demon. Packs more horsepower than a Cessna 182, but not enough to power a P-51 at 1,720 (thank goodness). But still a lot of ponies for Heritage Flight Museum's 2013 Props & Ponies.

Figured I'd snap a picture... to snap a picture. Enjoy!

Welcome to Jetliner January 2013, where my goal is 75% of the pictures posted are jetliners or cargo jets. A long backlog of (relatively) boring jetliner pictures has existed for a while, time to catch up!

However, I will still do my Navy League meeting pics (YEAH!!). Just again, have a long backlog several years in the works.

Just in case anybody thought Props & Ponies was all props... :-).

Enjoy this row of 4th Gen Mustangs at Heritage Flight Museum's Props & Ponies 2013!

Not the best possible photo, but figured another cockpit view would be appreciated.

Taken in FZ40 "Dynamic Art" HDR mode. May not have been the wisest of ideas with all the grey soup of the sky, but here is the pic. Barely got the left wingtip.

Figure this would make for an interesting way to show the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000. I always enjoy the powerplant exhibit of the Future of Flight, especially seeing a jet engine with the cowling off.

Posting these pics from my June 2012 trip to KPAE/Paine Field 1 year later. These are just some leftover pics that weren't posted for some reason.

Nice tail. Perhaps one of the best tail shots of all time, eh?

Nice thing is this picture was taken in Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 Dynamic Art HDR mode.

I got the whole airplane. Decided just to stamp and post as-is so everybody could see a FZ40 "Dynamic Art" HDR right out of the FZ40. You can also see all the dang digital noise I have to deal with.

Nevertheless, sure is a beautiful British Airways 747-400 that flew over the Museum of Flight last July! I just wish SeaTac mornings had these kinda planes flying in - 737s get old rather quick!!

IT'S TIME TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.

A photo submitted to the Museum of Flight 2011 photography contest and rejected. This photo was taken in FZ40 "Dynamic Art" Mode - which is an internal HDR mode.

Figure with tomorrow's SAR Demo at 1100 Hours @ Whidbey NAS, this is a timely share. Link to original size if you'd like.
