Being a bank holiday weekend, it's time for the annual Network Rail ballast tamping competition, this year being held at Balshaw Lane, Coppull and Farington, crippling the mid section of the WCML, and ensuring that much of Cheshire was a desert for train services all weekend. Freight can wait, passengers can go to hell. Dontcha just love Network Rail...
