This just goes to prove that you can dye roving in a public kitchen if you live in a dorm - just make sure that you have zero shame and no problem with getting REALLY weird looks.
On another note, this is the first roving I've dyed with the Wilton's food dyes my Mom brought back from America. The colours are amazing! I'd gotten so used to the duller shades that Koolaid offers, but these are so vibrant. A lot more vibrant than I'd intended, in fact. Yay for new dye!
Part 2 of my weekend dyeing event with Danny, skeins dyed with saxon blue (a derivative of indigo), and padauk (a tropical wood).
Detailed description from left:
1. Misti Alpaca, dyed with saxon blue, post-mordant bath in 10% of weight alum and 5% of weight cream of tartar.
2. Fingering weight Fabel Superwash wool and nylon, treated same as #1.
3. Worsted weight wool pre-mordanted some months ago with alum and cream of tarter, then treated the same as #1.
3. Classic Elite Yarns, silky alpaca lace, dyed with padauk, post-mordent bath in 10% of weight alum and 5% of weight cream of tartar.
5. Fabel Superwash wool and nylon, treated the same as #4.
6. Worsted wool pre-mordanted with alum and cream of tartar, then treated the same as #4.
My brows take exactly 13 minutes. My hair shaft is blonde, fine, and porous, so darker hair may take longer. It does not take as long as to dye your head hair.
