The brakeman on the w/b "beets" gives the "go ahead" to the engineer, at City of Industry in late spring 1970. Over the far-reaching SP system, the beets moved to processing plants in California from different growing regions and at differant times of the year. This is from the IV campaign, or Imperial Valley. The cars being set out are for Holly Sugar at Dyer (Santa Ana) and will be taken down on a beet hauler and turned over to Holly's sharp looking former SP SW1, for the final trip into the plant. The remainder of this train will continue on into LA and then up the coast to Union Sugar's plant at Betteravia on the SMV just east of Guadalupe, CA. Sadly, this is all history now.

So I’m back home and all of my doll heads have been soaking in water for a week to get rid of excess dye. None of the heads have faded at all unlike my Black Francie custom that did within a few days so that’s interest. Also I tried carving out the hole in Midge’s head to fit a modern body and turns out the dye penetrated the vinyl instead of just sitting on top of the surface like Rit dye so that’s weird too.
I also tried dyeing a Liv body but I noticed it wasn’tdyeing evenly in the hot water so I left it in the pot of dye for over a week and just pulled it out now.
Weirdly enough the entire back of the liv body dyed pretty evenly while the front didn’t? And the thing is, the body was being dyed with the legs folded and the torso curled up to fit the pot so it couldn’t be a case of the body floating up while dyeing and i made sure the body was fully submerged with weighted balls of foil.
Also I think the thighs and calves shrunk as well since this body is a bit shorter too. Not sure if I’ll just spray paint over this or I’ll just make her have vitiligo.

The embroidered eggs were just taking too long so hehe, the remaining eggs were dyed in the same manner as last year. The only difference this year, they were hollowed out first. I blew out the eggs and made some omelets. The hollow eggs filled up with the dye and I needed the tongs to fish them out of the cup and to help drain the dye back into the cup.

I wore this tunic to a party and spilled food and drink on it. The wine came out but not the soy sauce (?), so I dyed it black.
After dyeing this tunic black, I wore it to ecstatic dance. I love wearing things that move!

Grim was the first doll I was brave enough to dye/mod. I've always kept him around, and mostly just ignored how bad his blushing was getting. I finally decided to wipe his face up and it ended up taking most of the dye with it... weird considering he's been dyed and sealed for about two years now I think. So, I just went with it and removed as much of the dye as I could without much effort (no real scrubbing involved here). So we're starting over and he's getting a new look!
