I zoomed in on this house in my neighbourhood because the sun was shining off the windows, which caught my eye as I walked by.

I thought the curves and straight lines were especially pleasing to the eye.

I did it in black and white because the house was already black, and the trim white, so it just I just took advantage of that fact to try something different.

Mesa Verde, Colorado.

This is another example of a small village on a cliff ledge. That tall building is 4 stories high which was the highest they reached. They lived in these cliff dwellings for only one or 2 hundred years. Why they were abandoned is not known.

A snow storm made this cliff dwelling stand out.

The places are actually very homey and familiar looking, with hearths and windows and stairs and separate rooms built inside the cliffs.

I get a E-True Bandlier story view of what the inside of a cave dwelling looks like.

 

It isn't nearly as pretty or glamourous as they make it out to be.

Colorful vinyl toys can make a place look much less prison-like.

Before the people moved to the cliff houses they lived hundreds of years on the mesa tops.

May 8, 2023: Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Manitou Springs, Colorado.

 

Built between 1904-1907, The Manitou Cliff Dwellings is a privately owned tourist attraction with a recreated Anasazi cliff dwelling, museum, and gift shop. Visitors can walk and climb through the recreated cliff dwellings. The cliff dwellings are based on actual examples found in Mesa Verde National Park and similar preserved sites.

 

The Anasazi, also known as the Ancestral Puebloans, lived in the Four Corners area of the American Southwest from about 1200 BC to AD 1300.
