June 2007 - Again. it was a nice day for a walk.
It isn't my intention for this to look like a real estate site. I am not quite sure why I've set a goal to photograph some New Westminster, BC homes. I will concentrate on the area between Royal and 6th Street and from 1st to 6th Avenues. There are lots of heritage homes in that area, but I wish to show the variety of designs there. Perhaps this interests me because I'm a condo owner.
I keep general daily comments in my eJournal and images.
Mesa Verde was another place on our trip that Brian's grandpa had visited four decades earlier. His photos can be found here

May 8, 2023: Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Manitou Springs, Colorado.
Built between 1904-1907, The Manitou Cliff Dwellings is a privately owned tourist attraction with a recreated Anasazi cliff dwelling, museum, and gift shop. Visitors can walk and climb through the recreated cliff dwellings. The cliff dwellings are based on actual examples found in Mesa Verde National Park and similar preserved sites.
The Anasazi, also known as the Ancestral Puebloans, lived in the Four Corners area of the American Southwest from about 1200 BC to AD 1300.

Tenneti isukamma teeralalo.. (enlarge and you can see) a nice little hut on the sand.. and a man sauntering around. In fact, a keen eye can spot the vast bamboo rafts along the sand behind the man. These bamboo rafts are left afloat on Godavari and transported downstream.
A stack of colorful birdhouses, some upside down, some at a jaunty angle, stands at the edge of Lake Hibiscus like a totem pole. A serious message underlies these playful forms, reminiscent of folk art found in rural front yards. Askew, they refer to the chaotic and transitional states of houses all over the world, whether due to catastrophe or to changing cultural imperatives.

The Postcard
A postally unused postcard that was published by F. J. Schaaf of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Land of Enchantment. The colour photography was by Doc Campbell.
On the back of the card the publishers have printed:

Similar Type Ruins.
Gila Cliff Dwellings National
Monument.
Too little research has been done to obtain
a complete picture of the life and work of
these early people.
The ruins themselves, under a sheltering
wall of rock, are sufficiently preserved to
give some idea of the kind of community
it was.
Pueblo Indians lived in this area, they
cultivated crops often using irrigation,
hunted game for meat and skins, made
blankets and cloth by weaving, pottery
for cooking and storing, also instruments
such as awls - needles - tools from mammal
and bird bones.
Many relics and museum pieces have been
found and additional research is being done
all the time".

A good place to visit when it is raining. Since you are protected while in the dwellings!

I returned from a weekend jaunt to Michigan to find that an apartment building in clear view from my living room and kitchen had been gutted by fire in the twenty-four hours I had been gone.

A passing jogger spotted this well involved house fire on 29 Aucient Oak Rd in Bethlehem. Fire fighters could do nothing but take up a defensive attack due to the dwelling being so well involved before it was noticed.
