With Dacia starting out making Renault 12's which they produced only until a few years ago it seemed fitting that they would eventually be taken over by Renault themselves. Since then they have been transformed from Eastern European basket case to a hugely successful maker of sensible budget vehicles which have been a massive hit throughout Europe especially after the financial crisis of 2008.
Their one vehicle which has proved to transcend its budget status is the Duster which combines chunky highly original styling with low cost purchase price. French ownership probably explains why both Majorette and Norev make their own 1/64 versions and which look remarkably similar to one another. Stylistically there isn't much for Norev to get wrong which is why this Fire Service themed edition looks absolutely spot on. An opening tailgate, clear lense lights and plenty of detailing along with alloy effect wheels.
You won't be too surprised to hear I found this in a french E.Leclerc supermarket recently ;-) Mint and boxed.
A true third generation Dacia Duster casting rather than Majorettes subtle update of its second generation equivalent. Taking into account its "toy" status the levels of detailing are incredible. Part of a four vehicle set found recently in an E.Leclerc. Mint and boxed.
The unprecedented success of Dacia under Renault ownership may well be the reason for the inclusion of this Duster in the Majorette line up. In a European market dominated by glitzy premium branded SUV's the chunky Duster has carved itself a very profitable niche for itself in the lower end of the market and they are now a very common sight on our roads. Majorettes miniature version looks like an almost carbon copy of the equivalent Norev but much cheaper yet retains all those magic ingredients which keeps it street ahead of the competition. The casting itself looks 100% accurate in its appearance and is no doubt helped massively by the inclusion of a highly detailed front panel, opening features and springy suspension. Not surprisingly I bought quite a few more of these when they appeared in Poundworld last year. Mint and boxed.
Following the renewal of the Duster line-up last autumn, and in a similar vein to the limited-edition Aventure version of the model that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013, Dacia is to introduce the limited-edition Duster Air which will be available with either two- or four- wheel transmission.
While the Duster Aventure focused on the car’s adventurer spirit and all-terrain ability, the Duster Air takes its inspiration from the world of aviation and pilots.

What do you do when you hear a crop duster plane buzz over your house? I grabbed my camera and new 55-200 lens and ran outside.
I really like these; a properly useful unpretentious 4x4. Very popular in the highlands of Scotland and on the Western Isles, as you might expect.
And no, the driver of this one didn't go through on red. He rightly waited behind the line before they changed again.
Dacia is starting sales of the third generatiom of the Duster, some 15 years after the introduction of the first one. The budget SUV has been quite succesful. With prices over € 25.000 it's no longer a real bargain, but still less expensive compared to its competitors. This is a model powered by a 1.2 litre mild hybrid engine.

Like the Lada XRay of a couple of days ago, the Dacia Duster is a modern Crossover vehicle (CUV) from the ever-expanding Renault-Nissan group.
Whereas Lada (via parent AutoVAZ) has only recently come into the Renault-Nissan fold, after being associated with GM-Daewoo, Dacia has a much more extensive history tied to Renault going back nearly 50 years to an agreement to licence-build the Renault R12 in Romania from 1969.
The Duster II, shown here is a 2018 update to the original Duster CUV model launched in 2009. The Duster II uses the same Dacia B0 platform, shared with some other Dacia models, and which is a modified, long wheelbase version of the Renault-Nissan B-Platform, doing service under many B/C-segment vehicles including the Nissan Juke and Versa, Renault Clio and Captur, as well as the Lada XRay, The platform is saleable in both length and width, allowing it cover a significant cross section of the small-car market. The platform (along with the Duster) is built in many regions including Romania, Russia, India, Columbia, Brazil and Indonesia.
