Speleology is collaboration between poet Duriel E. Harris and video artist Scott Rankin based on Harris's eight-poem polyvocal sequence "Speleology"—a meditation that likens the investigation of trauma to the exploration of caves.
Duriel Ryans’s family strands strong with Rashawn Sullivan and members of OG’s Against Violence. “I’m gonna remember my son every day,” his mother Tammy said. “It feels so good that somebody cares.”
Sullivan, founder of iApologize Foundation (a non-profit that facilitates the re-entry of formally incarcerated individuals into society), partnered with Onondaga Earth Corps (OEC), a Syracuse-based environmental non-profit focused on youth education and renewing the urban ecosystem, June 9, 2018 to plant memorial trees at sites where makeshift shrines have sprung up in Syracuse's South Side. According to Sullivan, these shrines - usually liquor bottles and memorial candles - are not only a visual blight but also disrespectful to the memory of the deceased.
