THE MAN WITH TWO HATS
The National Canadian War Memorial in Apeldoorn is called 'The Man with Two Hats'. Ottawa, Canada, has an identical statue symbolising the solidarity between the two countries. The two hats represent war and peace, repression and freedom, life and death, sadness and joy. In fact, many Dutch people regard the Canadians as the true liberators of the Netherlands.

L'homme aux deux chapeaux - Man with two hats
The Man with Two Hats || L'homme aux deux chapeaux
In the City of Apeldoorn, The Man With Two Hats monument symbolizes many dualities. The two hats in and of themselves represent a time when to come through the war with one hat was something of a feat. It represents the end of the horrors of war but in the same vein the peace and freedom that continue to elude many countries today. It symbolizes the two countries of Canada and the Netherlands. The outstretched arms symbolize the liberation of the Netherlands and also the reaching out of country to country, people to people. The visage, one of sadness and deep meditation and also one of serenity and peace. With the donation of this monument, the Netherlands pays a lasting tribute to Canada. A statue identical to this one stands in Ottawa, Ontario. The twin monuments symbolically link Canada and the Netherlands, forever close friends.
The monument, which was sculpted by Dutch artist Henk Visch, is made of bronze and measures 4.6 metres. Entitled "The Man with Two Hats" (De man met de twee hoeden), it symbolizes the historic bonds between Canada and the Netherlands.

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongdaemun_Design_Plaza:
Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a major urban development landmark in Seoul, South Korea, designed by Zaha Hadid and Samoo, with a distinctively neo-futuristic design characterized by the "powerful, curving forms of elongated structures." The landmark is the centerpiece of South Korea's fashion hub and popular tourist destination, Dongdaemun, featuring a walkable park on its roofs, large global exhibition spaces, futuristic retail stores, and restored parts of the Seoul fortress.
The DDP has been one of the main reasons for Seoul's designation as the World Design Capital in 2010. Construction started in 2009, and it was officially inaugurated on March 21, 2014. It is physically connected to Seoul Subway via Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Line 2, 4, and 5.
The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) was designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, winner of the 2004 Pritzker Prize, with the concept of "Metonymic Landscape". Metonymy refers to a method of describing a specific object indirectly, and Hadid integrated historical, cultural, urban, social, and economic aspects of Seoul deduced from this method in order to create a scene of the landscape. Designed as a cultural hub in the historical district of Seoul, South Korea's largest fashion district, the DDP is composed of undulating surfaces that resemble the flow of liquid and allow flexibility in space. The state-of-the-art BIM (Building Information Modeling), mega-truss (extra-large roof truss) system, and space frame system are the key features in terms of creating grand-scale spaces. According to Hadid, the fundamental features of her design were "transparency, porousness, and durability." Many ecological features, including a double-skin facade, solar panels, and a water recycling system, are included in the building.
The construction project for replacing Dongdaemun Stadium with a public park has been discussed in the media since 2000, and the city of Seoul established a basic master plan for alternating the function of Dongdaemun Stadium in 2005. Upon the advice of architects, and in order to secure a high-quality design for the new landmark of Seoul, the city invited architects in February 2007 to participate in a design competition. The city requested that the architects include a design plaza, underground spaces, a history park, and a culture park in the project, according to the guidelines. Zaha Hadid's Metonymic Landscape won the competition.
The exterior envelope of the DDP, a smooth and giant mushroom-like structure floating above ground level, is made of concrete, aluminum, steel, and stone. The interior of the building is finished with plaster reinforced with synthetic fiber, acoustic tiles, acrylic resin, stainless steel, and polished stone in the interior.

Arranged alternately along thick, but fragile, purple stems, the leaves are deep royal purple above, and bright violet underneath. Blooming constantly during warm weather with small clusters of bright pink, 3-petalled, pale orchid-pink flowers. 1 in. (2.5 cm), emerge at the stem tips. Tradescantia pallida is a tender perennial which makes a beautiful groundcover. Its sprawling stems root in the moist soil, to create a carpet of ground-hugging foliage. Evergreen in frost-free areas, it dies back with mild freezes, but sprouts back in spring. In colder areas, it may be grown as a bedding annual, in a container or hanging basket, or as a houseplant.

We just made it out of town. We stopped by the police station just before we left to get more ammo and proper equipment (we hadn’t planned on leaving last time we were there). Scott, the police officer, suggested that we leave town as soon as possible and head for the city. Naturally, I raised no objections. Scott suited up in some more durable police attire (I declined the offer to change out of my current clothes) and brought along some weapons to defend ourselves in case we ran into more zombies. We packed only the bare essentials: food rations (courtesy of the police’s refrigerator), guns, ammo, some signal smoke/flares, first aid, and other necessities like water. We then set off, uncertain of what to expect along the way. As we continue to walk, we are greeted with the most incredible sunrise I’ve ever seen. I actually even forgot about the current situation until I saw the motionless corpse of a zombie on the road. We are now 10 miles out of Los Angeles…

Wow, it's been a while. Do any of you guys even remember what happened last time? :P
Anyways, this was a fun one. There were so many different concepts for the next chapter, but this one was the best for sure. The sunrise was actually not originally part of the story, but it adds just a little bit more character to the scene. Enjoy guys :)

I like how this light yellow Mercedes-Benz (W123) from decades ago distinguishes itself from the colorless group of modern cars in the background.
To me it seems a bit odd to consider this as an old car even though it is. It might be because these were so commonly recognizable from the time I was a young adult. Its production lasted 11 model years which seems almost like forever, and their durability assured their presence on the roads for many years thereafter.
Notice that there are two Mercedes Benz autos in this photo. In addition to the subject yellow one there’s a white one sitting in traffic, visible between the old Benz and the traffic light pylon. Covering up the front end of the old one, it still looks very much like a Mercedes Benz. Do the same to the white one and suddenly that car becomes a bit more generic and anonymous, not as immediately recognizable as a Mercedes Benz. That’s a priceless quality possessed by the older model and not so much by the newer one.

The exhibition "Awakening in Blue" is an ode to cyanotype, a centuries-old photographic technique that creates deep blue hues. In an age where AI images are being created incredibly quickly, cyanotype is making a comeback. Sunlight, water, shadow, and time all contribute to the creation of the image. This simple process produces prints that are both durable and multi-layered. The dark blue visual language inspires many modern artists. They use it to create beautiful images and to portray reality in new and surprising ways.
Clonmacnoise is a ruined monastery situated in County Offaly in Ireland on the River Shannon south of Athlone, founded in 544 by Saint Ciarán, a young man from Rathcroghan, County Roscommon. Until the 9th century it had close associations with the kings of Connacht. Saint Ciarán chose[citation needed] to found the monastery in the ancient territory of Ui Maine at a point where the major East-West land route (Slighe Mhor) meets the River Shannon after crossing the bogs of Central Ireland known as the Esker Riada. The strategic location of the monastery helped it become a major centre of religion, learning, craftsmanship, and trade by the 9th century; and together with Clonard it was one of the most famous places in Ireland, visited by scholars from all over Europe.[citation needed] From the ninth until the eleventh century it was allied with the kings of Meath. Many of the high kings of Tara (ardrí) and of Connacht were buried here.
The Irish government's Office of Public Works manages the preserved ruin. An Interpretive Centre is open to the public, the graveyard is in use and religious services take place in a modern chapel. In 544 Saint Ciarán, a young man from Rathcroghan, County Roscommon, arrived at this location with seven companions. (Saint Ciarán is not to be confused or conflated with St. Ciarán of Saigir, patron of Osraige). Here he met Diarmait Uí Cerbaill, who later became the first Christian crowned High King of Ireland. Together they built the first church at the site. This was a small wooden structure and the first of many small churches to be clustered on the site. In September 549, not yet thirty-three years of age, Ciarán died of a plague, and was reportedly buried under the original wooden church, now the site of the 9th-century stone oratory, Temple Ciarán. This location was particularly important because here the major east–west land route through the bogs of central Ireland along the Eiscir Riada (an esker left by the receding glaciers of the last ice age) crossed the River Shannon.
According to Adomnan of Iona, who referenced the testimony of earlier abbots of Iona who had known Columba, St Columba visited the monastery at Clonmacnoise during the time when he was founding the monastery at Durrow. While he was there he prophesied about the future debates in the churches of Ireland about the dating of Easter and claimed that angels had visited the monastery at Clonmacnoise. While he was there, a young monk named Ernéne mac Craséni (who would later be famous in Ireland) tried to touch Columba's clothes while Columba was not looking. However, the saint immediately noticed and grabbed the boy by the neck, told him to open his mouth, and then blessed him, saying that he would teach the doctrine of salvation.
Towards the close of the seventh century a plague carried off a large number of its students and professors. Clonmacnoise's period of greatest growth came between the 8th and 12th centuries. It was attacked frequently during these four centuries, most often by the Irish (at least 27 times), the Vikings (at least 7 times) and the Normans (at least 6 times). The early wooden buildings began to be replaced by more durable stone structures in the 9th century, and the original population of fewer than ten men grew to perhaps 1,500 to 2,000 by the 11th century. Although the site was based around a core of churches, crosses, graves and ecclesiastical dwellings and workshops, it would have been surrounded by the houses and streets of a larger secular community, the metalworkers, craftsmen and farmers who supported the monastic clergy and their students. Artisans associated with the site created some of the most beautiful and enduring artworks in metal and stone ever seen in Ireland, with the Clonmacnoise Crozier (on display in the National Museum of Ireland) and the Cross of the Scriptures representing the apex of their efforts. The Book of the Dun Cow a vellum manuscript dating to the 12th century, was written here and its main compiler, Máel Muire mac Céilechair meic Cuinn na mBocht was reputedly murdered in a Viking raid in 1106.
By the 12th century Clonmacnoise began to decline. The reasons were varied, although attacks by the Vikings (under Turgesius) and the Normans contributed. Without doubt the most debilitating factor was the growth of the town of Athlone to the north of the site from the late-12th century. Athlone became the main trading town for the midlands of Ireland, and the most popular route for crossing the Shannon, as well as the best-defended settlement in the region. People migrated north from Clonmacnoise to Athlone, and along with the population decrease went much of the support that the site needed to survive, and former allies began to recognise the decline in the site's influence. The influx of continental religious orders such as the Cistercians, Franciscans, Augustinians, Benedictines, Cluniacs, etc. around the same time fed into this decline as numerous competing sites began to crop up. Ireland's move from a monastic framework to a diocesan one in the twelfth century similarly diminished the site's religious standing, as it was designated the seat of a small and impoverished diocese.
In 1552 the English garrison at Athlone destroyed and looted Clonmacnoise for the final time, leaving it in ruins.
The monastery ruins were one of the stops on the itinerary of Pope John Paul II during his visit to Ireland in 1979.
°°°°°°°°°°°°
Demonstrations in large cities have often been the scene of diverse demands, particularly in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and women's rights.
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated urban inequalities, turning a health crisis into a crisis of urban access and equity. Housing conditions have increased women's vulnerability to violence, and mobility restrictions have limited their ability to escape these situations. In addition, the use of public transport has declined, which could jeopardise efforts to achieve sustainable and safe transport.
Women have played a crucial role in demonstrations to express their anger at persistent inequalities. For example, on 8 March 2024, more than 30,000 women in Belgium took part in strikes and demonstrations to demand greater respect for care work.
These actions highlight the importance of recognising and valuing women's work, which is often undervalued.

These small, shiny pellets don’t stay small for long—they are reborn as durable containers, furniture, and everyday products, weaving discarded waste back into the fabric of daily life. Amid the clatter of machines and the rhythm of labour, the city quietly battles the plastic tide, one recycled bottle at a time.

Name: Victor Dixon
Alias: Total Knockout
Abilities: Enhanced strength and durability
Origin:
Born with his powers and discovering them at a very young age in the schoolyard after a chance encounter with bullies, Victor Dixon was living a somewhat easy life. He began training locally at a gym in middle school, building up his own muscle mass which granted him his secondary ability of his durability. He became a boxer after graduating high school, but that's when tragedy struck. Normally, Victor would pull his punches in the ring as to not hurt anyone, but after getting caught up with drugs and using a new drug circulating through Harvest City known as "Goner," he forgot his code and fractured someone's skull and collarbone. Victor was put behind bars, where he vowed to bring vengeance to those who push drugs like "Goner" and atone for his own sins. On the day he was released from jail, he became Total Knockout.

Special Ability: “Enlightenment”
Description: Omh was the first raing mech designed for a Mix match, but is classified under the Rumble type, its special skill, Enlightenment, allows for the 2 extra pairs of arms to be deployed to repair itself or a teammate mech, as a downside, it has to rely on the auto pilot as the pilot is operating the six arms manually, that is why it goes to the sitting position. In terms of speed it is not the fastest mech and the agility is average, but what defines it as a rumble mech, is that the arms can be deployed to redirect incoming attacks, making it a really tough cohttps://ideas.lego.com/projects/142658ntender. The Pilot, Olive, is a former rock star that was fascinated with speed, but as a Buddhist, she wanted a peaceful mech that was like no other.
- Build notes -
So, new build based on the previous sketch, I had to put the wheels being the knee, but I think it looks better this way, I like the bulkiness and the shape of it a lot, and the colors give a very royal look, which I like. The transition to the siting mode happens really fast and it becomes VERY stable, so that is good.
This mech was also build with a new frame prototype that I’m building based on a upgrade I did for the Spina design, it becomes really durable and playable, so stay tuned for that update, and if by any chance you want to have one of my builds at home, remember that you can support my project at LEGO IDEAS here:

Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya in Turkish) can be considered as the best and the most visited sights in Istanbul together with the neighboring Topkapi Palace. Hagia Sophia is a former church and museum and declared as one of the world’s greatest architectural works and accepted as the 8th wonder of the world. Built as a church in 325, Hagia Sophia was rebuilt in 537 and was converted into a mosque by Fatih Sultan Mehmet after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453.
Serving as a museum since 1935, a decree on 10th of July 2020 to formally declare the Hagia Sophia as a mosque, after Turkey’s administrative court annulled a 1934-dated decision that paved the way for the use of Hagia Sophia as a museum.
Roman & Byzantium Period
Hagia Sophia was first constructed in 325 for the great wish and will of the Emperor Constantine to move the capital of the Roman Empire to Istanbul.

Yes I know, not two words you might often hear together, but this little machine has proved its worth, again in the Stanway's fleet.
I took this photo in the Surrey village of Ockley when I originally collected the little bus on behalf of the company, and after an initial hiccup with a water leak, discovered when turning round after taking this photo, it made the 180 mile journey back to base in a sedate and unexciting manner. Following a re-paint and some degree of indecision regarding the layout of the colours (very little by way of beading to use) it entered service. I'm pleased to report that as I type this in 2020 it still performs a regular job each weekday.
Northern Counties bodied L108 HHV (now MIG 9497) was new to London Northern as their DNL108 after which it passed to Hedingham Omnibuses from where it was eventually bought by dealer Mike Nash ... which is where we came in.
This week is all about focusing on the details. The pretty red raspberry martini was a detail of our dinner with friends I wanted to remember. 🍸
Today, 231s are valuable collectors' items, often being maintained using the same tools that came with the car when it first rolled out of the factory. Many ingenious construction techniques were employed by the designers to make the car durable, yet simple to repair. Replacement parts are easy to come by as the car is built from very standard parts, aside from a a handful of specialized suspension pieces for the rear axle fabricated by Kastner in limited amounts. Many of these parts have modern-day duplicates, making the 231 a very easy car to refurbish and maintain.
