I have so wanted to return to this beautiful waterfall, the Sol Duc Falls, since first seeing it in 2018. My wife said I raced up the steps at the end of the trail to the bridge-viewing area. It is my favorite and I was so pleased to return here on this day in September, 2025.
From a great morning with a wonderful red morph. We are really blessed with Owl species here, and the true outliers are the red morph Screech-Owls. They are rare and delightful when they arrive.
The So Duc Falls Nature trail winds through the forest on its way to Sol Duc Falls in Olympic National Park, Washington. Not many people on the trail on this rainy April evening so lots of solitude.
Sunlight bled through the rainforest surrounding the Sol Duc Falls and gave it a nice shine on our way back from the waterfall shoot. As a word of advice for Olympic-bound travelers, if you don't want to fight the crowds at the Hoh Rainforest, which is a wonderful place, the rainforest around Sol Duc and Lake Crescent is nothing to sneeze at.

En plein centre d'un village de Vendée, dans une petite prairie, ce hibou moyen duc, d'ordinaire nocturne, chassait en plein midi, une observation vraiment étonnante !

Construite de 1584 à 1586 pour abriter les collections d'antiques du duc Vespasinao Gonzaga, aujourd'hui transférées à Mantoue, elle est décorée par Giovanni (1558-1601) et Alessanbdro Alberti (1551-1596).

Olympic National Forest, Washington.
Old-growth forest, subalpine lakes, and snowy peaks populate the Sol Duc landscape, while the Sol Duc River serves as a key highway for coho salmon, running through the valley and ascending to the lakes and headwaters in the surrounding mountains.
The Sol Duc Valley is located in the northwest region of the park. Just 40 minutes west of Port Angeles, the Sol Duc is accessed by turning off Highway 101 onto the Sol Duc Road.
For those looking to spend anywhere from a few hours to an entire day in the Sol Duc, there are a number of shorter hikes that may be suitable. From the parking lot, the walk through old-growth forest to the Sol Duc Falls overlook is just a mile. Lover's Lane (6 mile loop) and the climb to Mink Lake (5.2 miles roundtrip) can also be done in just a few hours.

My previous post of this waterfall was taken while standing on the bridge seen in the background. The two men were standing on a rock outcropping below the center of the image. This shot was taken close enough to the falls to suit me!
Cette magnifique rouquine prend son envol dans la pénombre, les bébés vont bientôt sortir leurs têtes du trou. This magnificent little red morph owl is taking flight after months of nesting the brand new screech owls, surprising nidification.
