A coconut is a simple fruit because it was formed from a single ovary. It is considered fleshy because at least some of the pericarp is soft at maturity. Specifically, it is a drupe because the endocarp is stony.
The stony endocarp (left) of the coconut is removed from the rest of the fruit. The seed is inside the endocarp and not visible here.
The husk of the coconut (right) consists of the exocarp and mesocarp. It has a hole drilled in it to reveal the mesocarp.
