A basic circuit for driving one propulsion motor of a tennis machine I'm building. It's half of an H-Bridge, allowing for one direction and break. A microcontroller is to be connected to the two inputs on the MOSFET driver chip.

European Formula Two champion in 1977, René Arnoux graduated to Formula One in 1978, with the small French Martini team of Tico Martini. a team short of resources, it abandoned F1 before the close of the season. Rene found himself in a simular position in the Surtess team at the end of the season with a team running out of options.
For the 1979 season, Arnoux joined the Renault team, which entered two cars for the first time since its debut in 1977. The team's only victory of the year was taken by Arnoux's teammate Jean-Pierre Jabouille at the French Grand Prix at the Dijon-Prenois circuit, where Arnoux came third after some vigerous wheel banging with Gilles Villeneuve in a scrap for second place, In the 1980 season, Arnoux took his first two Formula One victories, the first being at a much-protested Interlagos circuit in Brazil but a lack of reliability prevented him from playing a part in the fight for the world title, although he took three pole positions. Arnoux's situation was complicated in 1981 by the arrival of Alain Prost at Renault. Inevitably their rivalry on track flared up off the track and relations between the two men deteriorated, he conflict reached its peak at the 1982 French Grand Prix at the Circuit Paul Ricard. The drivers took the first one-two in Renault's history in Formula One, Arnoux finishing ahead of Prost. Prost was furious, considering that his teammate had not kept to the team orders agreed before the race, according to which he should have ceded the win to Prost, who was better placed in the championship. Arnoux replied that no orders had been given before the race and that he was free to drive his own race. He was also lucky to walk away from a high speed crash after brake failure at the end of the long straight in the Dutch Grand Prix.
The pairing of Prost and Arnoux having become unsustainable, Arnoux left Renault at the end of 1982 to join Scuderia Ferrari. With three victories, at the Canadian, German, and Dutch Grands Prix, he was in contention for the world title for much of the season, but was left behind by his rivals Prost and Nelson Piquet in the championship run in.
1984 was less productive with rivals McLaren being the dominant car. After finishing 4th in the opening race of the 1985 championship in Brazil, Arnoux was suddenly dismissed from the team with no explanation ever given by either driver or team. His place in the team was taken by Swedish driver Stefan Johansson.
Without a drive for the rest of the 1985 season, Arnoux made his return to Formula One in 1986 for the Ligier team (powered by the Renault turbo engine), where he delivered several good performances. However, despite maintaining his motivation, Ligier were not competitive and Arnoux went through three seasons at the back of the grid before leaving Formula One after the 1989 season.

I feel nostalgic sometimes about Japan, especially when I see this photograph. Maybe something candid or childish which misses me in Paris…

The Saint, a 60's Tv show, a mystery spy thriller television series that aired in the UK on ITV between 1962 and 1969.
The Saint's 1800 Volvo, and Roger Moore as The Saint
The classic image of Roger Moore driving his Volvo sports car in the 1960's TV show, The Saint, endures even today. The Volvo Car Corporation supplied the "The Saint" television producers a total of five P1800 models for use on their show. Volvo happily supplied the first one in 1962, registered as 71 DXC, within a week of its being requested.
In 1964, Volvo moved production of the P1800 line from England to Sweden, and sent one of the new 1800S models, registration 77 GYL, to the set of "The Saint". The first car was then chopped up for better interior shot access.
Three years later, in 1967, Volvo supplied yet another car. This car, however, didn't get much use as it was wrecked in a crash fairly soon after its arrival. The production company did manage to salvage some of the parts, and used them to update the 1964 car with the new straight bumpers, chrome, and more modern trim rings for the wheels.
A short time after the crash, Volvo supplied two more cars. One, registered as NUV 647E, was used for Roger Moore's personal use, and the other, NUV 648E, was used for filming.
If you would like to see one of the cars, the "Cars of the Stars" museum in Keswick, England has the official 'Saint' car on display. Their car is the fully restored 1964, registration 77 GYL, with a giant Saint logo on the hood.

When tropical forests disappear, there is rarely a single cause – a combination of closely related direct and indirect factors bring about deforestation and forest degradation. Complicating the picture further is the fact that the drivers behind forest destruction vary significantly from one continent to the other. While cattle and soy production are responsible for the deforestation of large areas of rainforest in the southern and eastern Amazon, the palm oil industry and logging are key drivers in Indonesia and Malaysia. In the Central Africa region, small scale agriculture has long been an important deforestation factor, while commercial logging is a major driver behind forest degradation.

Wednesday 13 02 2019.
My wife's grandmother died to day. My wife had to work, but the rest of her family had gathered at the the hospital, so I cycled over to meet them.
I took a quiet route home. There was a merge in Camden with a couple of other cyclists, where I pulled up next to them at the light and though I'd go single file ahead of or behind them, as they seemed to be together. The woman pulled ahead, but the man stayed next to me, until I slowed down a lot to let him go ahead. It was not a brilliant merge, but there was barely any traffic around aside form a single cab behind me that was delayed getting to the next stop light by about 20 seconds. He chose to extend this to 30 seconds by pulling up next to me and yelling at me. I didn't quite take in what he said and I stared ahead, not reacting. I wait for cabs that are in my way all the time, surely one of them can wait for me once in a while. Cyclists have the right to take the lane if they want to and while I'd been slightly inconvenient for him, I'd done nothing wrong.
I got to the next light and there was a cab stopped there. I wasn't entirely sure it was the same guy, but I thought it might be and I wondered if he worked for a company. I took a picture, with the idea that later, I could maybe write a letter. I probably would have forgotten about it by the time I got home, if he hadn't got out of his cab and come around to yell at me more.
He repeated about 20 times what exactly he yelled at me, but I've still forgotten it. Something about taking a poor trajectory. It ended with 'you silly boy.' Surely I could not have any right to complain about his helpfully shouted advice, so therefore, I should delete my photo and then hand over my phone so he could verify I deleted it. I refused. He said that he would call the police, as my taking a picture of his number plate violates the data protection act. I said that his number plate is not protected data. He said he was calling the police. I said he was free to do so if he wanted.
He kept yelling and I just got bored of it. I told him I was coming home from the hospital, where a family member had just died. I was having a shitty day and I'm sorry I offended him, but I was just going to home. But, of course, he kept yelling. When you're on the street, vulnerability is a big neon sign pinned to your back. He wouldn't have yelled at me in the first place unless I'd been vulnerable. It was only because I was having a bad day and seemed defeated already that he wanted to fight.
I started wheeling my bicycle down the pavement and pushed the button for the walk light. He demanded to know where I was going. I said he could call the police, but he had no right to detain me and no right to my phone. I quit paying attention him. Maybe he yelled something as he drove off. Maybe he didn't. Anyway, here is his number plate.
If you know how to make a complaint, leave a comment.
