4 Out of 5 Pro Class Shootout Drivers Were DSE Equipped at Goodguys Kissimmee
Mooresville, NC - This was the first year for Goodguys Rod & Custom Association All American Nationals at Kissimmee and it did not disappoint. It was a good show all three days with great weather and a lot of autocrossing action.
For this event they had a little twist on the Pro-Class in the autocross with the top five drivers going into a shootout to determine the winner. It was great to see that 4 out of the 5 shootout drivers were DSE "Equipped." Stacy just missed out on the top five finishing with a very hard fought 6th place in her Detroit Speed 1969 Camaro Test Car, just .700 of a second behind the 5th place qualifier. The finals came down to Danny Popp in his 1972 Corvette vs Kyle Tucker in his DSE 1970 Camaro Test Car. Danny managed to beat out Kyle in a great battle that was separated by less than a second to take the win. Our good friends from Jet-Hot, Tim McGilton and Cheryl Herrick raced great all weekend and came out with a 3rd and 5th place finish respectively.
Aside from all the racing action, the Detroit Speed Hauler was packed all weekend long with customers and friends stopping by to see the suspension up close that carved all of the corners out on the autocross throughout the weekend. The driver of this city-owned front end loader saw me watching and stopped to talk. He said he had been plowing snow since Friday (it was now Wednesday) and the city was running out of places to put the snow. He also complained about the idiots who insisted on driving for non-emergencies and getting in the way of the snow removal crews. But overall he seemed to be in a good mood and dealing with the unprecedented amount of snow we've had, even though a lot of folks were compaining that the city hadn't finished clearing their streets yet. He said I could send the photos I took to the mayor if I wanted.

Julius Driver (1795-1883) migrated from Georgia in 1852, buying some Faulkenberry headright land, and later giving 4.5 acres for this cemetery. A daughter-in-law, Mary Groover (Mrs. William G.) Driver, was first person buried here, in 1869. Driver also gave site in 1878 for nearby Hicks Spring Church and school. There the Confederate veterans of Freestone County had their first reunion in 1890. The recorded deed of cemetery to the public was made by a subsequent landowner, John Hays, in 1901. The Driver Cemetery Association has governed the property since 1915. There are now 673 graves. (1975) (Marker No. 9872)
