Late in 1997, Porsche Motorsport delivered three 911 GT1 Evo race cars to selected customer teams. One of these went to Champion Motors which belonged to the major American Porsche dealer Dave Maraj. In the 1998 US Road Racing Championship Champion Motors won the constructors’ championship for Porsche and claimed the vice-championship for the team with the Grand Touring car from Weissach.
