Each chain tensioner cog exibited a fair amount of wear and subsequent slop. No roller bearings here, just plain uncut bolt to driled hole in cog. No washers either, just a threaded mounting plate and locking nut underneath thats difficult the undo or tighten.

I cannot remember for the life of me why Ali is laughing so hard, but clearly I'm a funny girl! I have drilled through the wooden ring shape with the spade drill bit and a very important lesson has been learned. It is better to drill the finger-hole through the whole piece of wood and use the template to draw your desired ring shape around the hole. I drilled another ring that I had filed and sanded before this and managed to split it. Driling into a the whole piece of wood obviously makes a stronger material than trying to drill through an already filed and sanded ring which by its size is obvious a more delicate piece. Oh well - an important lesson learnt :-)
Because the headstock that is now on the lathe is the 'new' style (new when I got it) that came out a while after the Jeffree magazine articles and the following book were published, it has a 'new and improved' means of tightening the headstock onto the lathe bed. This meant that I had to drop the fourth bolt in the tumbler support brackets since the improvement is right bang in the way. This not an optimal situation, and I will revisit this to see if I can find a way around this problem Simply driling a new hole in the affected bracket side-arm may be sufficient
