Life Drawing Open Sessions are held on most Wednesdays and select Sundays. View the schedule at www.delrayartisans.org/calendar/action~stream/cat_ids~26/

 

These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our live models. The fee for each 3-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. 2-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members.

For the charcoal piece I started with a charcoal base and brought back white highlights on particular features by erasing parts of the base.

On the left is "Quibby", a portrait of my best friend for the 2020 Cheltenham Ladies College Art Scholar's Exhibition. On the right is a graphite study using willow charcoal and a 6B pencil, which took four hours.

Charcoal

Observing mini spirit bottles with paintbrushes in them. I felt that these pieces were really successful, as they have strong lines, and the charcoal piece has good depth and use of tone. For the observation unit I had to use what was around me at home due to the national lockdown, however I feel like I was able to create interesting compositions.

 

Pen and ink.

These were objects that I had in front of me, the first image is the initial take, and the second one is a revision I did where I added a wash over it and some smaller details.
