Mid-October (2013) on the lake, the sky was offering a view of orange. This photo combines the orange with a bit of red for a more dramatic effect of the lovely sunset that was available that evening.
shot with a kit lens and a travel light set up. single side lighting to create stronger shadows and a dramatic effect. turned to grayscale using ACR.
Gotta love that lighting. I wished the tree branches weren't in the shot when I was taking it, but they add an interesting element and color to the image.
On Friday, May 20th, I had just come from a friend (Karen Rodewald) of mine's gallery opening at U Penn, and had my camera with me, as I sat for a little Friday afterwork talk and drink at Dirty Frank's. The conversation going on as I sat down was Philadelphia and it's reputation for rudeness. After some good joking about it ("Philadelphia. the city that knife's you back"), everyone present basically said that they did love this place, and that it wasn't rude, per se, just lacking the polite social artiface which is the norm in so many other places, that there was an honest "grit" to Philly that endeared each of us to it. As we were talking I realized that this was the exact feeling I got each time I tipped a drink in Dirty Frank's, and what I try to capture with my ongoing series of photographs taken there. At that point I picked up my camera and took this and several other pictures, hoping to catch a little bit more of that honesty.
Wanted to try a timelapse with the dramatic tone art filter from the Olympus E-5.
