Vintage July 1956 issue of Police Dragnet Cases Magazine. This issue is a little worse for wear, but it is a Special New York City Issue - from Park Avenue to Park Bench. No detective/police or true crime magazine would be complete without some lurid item on the cover to “bait” a prospective buyer. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!

Edmund Lincoln "Eddie" Anderson (1905 – 1977), aka Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, was a Black American comedian and actor.

Anderson got his start in show business In the early 1930s. In '37, he began his most famous role as Rochester van Jones, usually just "Rochester", as the valet of Jack Benny, on his radio show & later TV show The Jack Benny Program also appeared in movies and other TV shows.

His home in the West Adams district of Los Angeles was one of the few places in L.A. where he could have a home built because even L. A. black entertainers were not welcome in white neighborhoods due to restrictive covenants. He called on Black American architect, Paul R. Williams to designed his new massive home that sat in an area surrounded by smaller, bungalow-style homes. He also had a pool so the neighbors and their kids could play and swim in the pool. The home is currently a Bed & Breakfast.

Burden had Metropolis II's cars specially manufactured in China to his custom specifications — unlike Metropolis I, which just used off-the-shelf Hot Wheels toys. "The original toy cars have very thin axles that wear out too fast," says Burden. Given that Metropolis II is supposed to run three days a week for the next 10 years, how will it avoid the "wearing out" problem? Burden's no-nonsense answer: "We made a lot of cars."

The UPF(United in Peace Foundation) hosted a Peace Ride on July 28 in memory of the slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

Hundreds of Bikers, lowriders and classic cars road from the Leimert Park area to Magic Johnson Park. The ride was also dedicated to the thousands of mothers and fathers whose youngsters have been gunned down in senseless violence throughout the country.

Not certain what the connection this photo has with the Institute of Musical Arts but it was mixed in with the other photos and documents pertaining to the institute.

I think I am not certain this was General Hospital main Administrative building. Any Flickr historians are welcome to jump in here and correct me if I am wrong.

Demolition after Implosion to weaken the structure for final tear down. If you gotta see your ponies race you still have Del Mar and Santa Anita race tracks to go see them run. Now that this demolition is taking place people are hopeful that we'll get a NFL team coming back to the L. A. area. Hmmm foot ball, golf, tennis, baseball.... sorry I rather watch grass grow, what we need is a drag strip, a motocross park, monster truck stadium a low rider park and show car arena all rolled into one.

I come from a long way away

And I know a fine thing when I see it.

See it

For the same reason no one ever

Pointed a telescope at the sun

Talking about the Red Angels of New York City

CHORUS

Who shot the shot?

Who got shot tonite?

Not even five enforcement agencies can save their own.

Never mind the people

Tonite it's raining on the Angels of the City

Did anyone prophesize these people?

Only Travis

Come in Travis

One of these days I'm gonna get myself organized.

All the animals come out at night.

Queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick venal.

Some day a real rain will come and wash all the scum off the streets.

Thank god for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk. Listen you screwheads:

Here is a man who would not take it anymore.

A man who stood up against the scum, the filth.

Now I see clearly.

Personally I know the alley

Where Jack feeds on the birds of night

Not even bubbies on bicycles 2x2

Can stop the blood and feathers flying

Waring overalls and for once and for all

What is the dream?

I'll tell it

To live like they do in the movies

San Juan you listening?

Yeah I bet you are

Hands up for Hollywood

Hooray

I hear you

Snappy on the air

Hang in their

Wall to wall

You saved the worled

What else? You saved the girl

Chmpagne on ice

No stranger to Alcatraz

To boot

Or strip it down

Chop it a little

Being reasonable

Just freedom to move

To live

For women to take a walk in the park at midnite

Hey, but this is serious

She can't even get back home

I come from a long way off

And I know a lifegiver over a lifetaker

For the same reason no-one ever pointed

A gun at a policeman

Talking about the Red Angels of New York City

Yeah

A fire broke out early Friday morning (4/26/13) about 2 am at the Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church in the Windsor Hills / Leimert Park area on the 4900 block of Crenshaw Blvd. Residence near by said they heard an explosion. It took 80 firefighters a little under an hour to put the fire out. The main building was completely gutted by the fire. The south wing of the church facility and Bethesda Senior apartments/home next door suffered little or no damage. LAFD Arson Investigators, FBI and the ATF are still looking into the cause, but fire officials say the fire does not appear to be criminal in nature, and there are no signs of foul play at this time. 7 months earlier I was just two blocks east and got pictures of another church fire in the HYDE PARK area at 11th Ave. & 48th st. Galilee Baptist Church was completely gutted by a fire. I still can't get a clear answer as to what caused that fire. If anyone knows for certain please leave a comment.

The Los Angeles Shoot, Loot & Scoot Triathlethon: aka The 1992 L. A. Riots

Found some more photos taken with my old ROLLEI ROLLIFLEX 35 MM SLR of the '92 L. A. Riots.

I can kick myself that I didn't sneak a few shots with my camera while the mayhem was going on. I was busy ducking and dodging and running red lights to avoid trouble. Almost all the pictures you see were taken on the third day of the riots when the Authoritah started to gain control.

I tip my hat to the journalist that were in the thick of it, they got some fantastic shots.
