Wonderful art museum and very photogenic

G'day everyone! I hope you're all well & mighty. Today I have to share with you some client work of mine,

a kitchen I did for the Christenson family. Mr & Mrs Christenson have a beautiful French mansion

which is settled in the high estate living of Boca Raton. The matured couple, have requested to have

their kitchen as the main focus for their house. It's the heart of the home, and a space which will be used frequently by the Christensons.

After speaking with my clients, I just knew that having a bright spacious kitchen and dining will improve their lifestyle for the much needed. Apart from being especially seasonal for all year round socials,

the colour palette is soft and warm, with both colour and texture of mediums. With a slight modern revamp, it helps freshen the space, whilst still keeping the home suited to it's the Exterior facade.

The kitchen has been modified and tailored to the existing room, with minor adjustments to the trimming of the home,

and ceiling downlights installed to give a modern edge to the home, alongside the overhead pendants. The kitchen is fitted with marble counter bench tops, and wooden cabinetry with the gold hinge, and handle accents that really thrive off the classy vibe and limestone subway splash back that helps transition with the soft finishing.

Heumarkt U-Bahn station, Cologne, Germany

Lighting for the new Heumarkt U-Bahn station

in Cologne creates lively views

Each of the eight stations on the new North-South rapid transit (U-Bahn) line in Cologne was designed by a different architectural firm. Four of these stations use lighting technology from WE-EF. The largest of the stations, which is at Heumarkt, offers an impressive demonstration of how the luminaires contribute to function, safety and aesthetics all at the same time.

Featuring vaulted ceilings, the surprisingly large hall on the top floor of the new Heumarkt U-Bahn station resembles a church nave. In reality, however, it serves a purely worldly function as an access point to the deeper train lines and the location of a 300-m2 shopping pavilion. If Cologne's East-West line is moved below ground at some point, this intermediate level will be transformed into a train station as well.

The dynamics and vivacity of Heumarkt station are conveyed through the architecture, not only by the lively vaulted hall but also the numerous cut-outs and visual axes that open up a wide range of new perspectives. From some locations the entire height of the building can be seen – from the deep level of the North-South line and the intermediate level, to the glassed stairways leading above ground, where natural daylight enters the structure.

Given the great differences in room heights, some spanning various floor levels, the task for the lighting design team was to generate sufficient illuminance at the transport levels from a wide range of lighting point heights. A particularly versatile lighting instrument was required in order to manage the heterogeneous installation positions as well as the installation/mounting conditions, using a continuous luminaire design. WE-EF DOC240 recessed exterior downlights are the ideal solution for evenly powerful and flexible lighting.

In the Heumarkt station, DOC240 luminaires are mounted in a variety of combinations – incorporated with cross-members and integrated with the perforated metal sheet cladding of the station ceiling, and directly installed in both level and inclined concrete ceilings. In areas that are difficult to access, such as above the escalators and stairways, the downlights have been installed on luminaire lifts. These lifts make it possible to lower the luminaires for servicing or to replace lamps, which is a tool-free process.

Arranged in pairs between the cross-members along the apex of the arched ceiling, DOC240 luminaires form an impressive band of light. They direct impressive light downwards, while WE-EF FLC131 projectors illuminate the ceiling panels along the zenith line.

There are a lot of pretty murals in San Francisco, in the most unexpected places. Like here, between two row homes.

The irony about the row houses "cheek-by-jowl" in San Francisco, to a city dweller such as myself who lives in a comparatively suburban city such as Seattle, is that in SF they probably have more privacy than we do, with respect to next door neighbors. Whereas most of the row houses in SF only have windows front and back, we have windows on the sides of our houses. However, in the central city, depending on our plats, we can be a mere fifteen or twenty feet from the sides of our next door neighbors, and so we can see in at each other, doing things like washing dishes or raiding the refrigerator. Or walking around in our underwear. Still, I like having the extra light.

Millennium Bridge, Salford Quays - Salford - Greater Manchester, England.

A nice evening to be wandering about in Salford Quays, a bit chilly but the skies were clear. In fact, the whole weekend was nice weather-wise, a perfect time to drive out of town to the Greater Manchester area.

One of the popular hangouts in Salford - the Salford Quays, has a few bridges spanning the Manchester Ship Canal, but the most photographed of them all is this bridge - the lift bridge or Millennium Bridge, which was completed in the year 2000 hence its name. It links Salford Quays to Trafford Wharfside and has a lift of 18 metres, allowing large watercraft to pass beneath it.

The sweeping arches are decorated with blue LED lighting, while the deck is illuminated with white downlighting. There are glass sidings which acts also as a windbreaker; the shape follows the angle of the arches.

As fluffy and adorable as he may be, Newt Scamander was forever chasing after his pesky pet, who had the most ingenious habit of escaping at the slightest sound of dropped change.

"The Niffler is a British beast. Fluffy, black and long-snouted, this burrowing creature has a predilection for anything glittery. Nifflers are often kept by goblins to burrow deep into the earth for treasure. Though the Niffler is gentle and even affectionate, it can be destructive to belongings and should never be kept in a house. Nifflers live in lairs up to twenty feet below the surface and produce six to eight young in a litter." - Newt Scamander

(...but really actually, J.K. ROWLING...)

I created this MOC for a 16x16 vignette competition for my local AFOL group (SAFOL). It has been my largest and most detailed build to date and I had an absolute blast putting it together!

Thanks must be giving for Titus Verelst's (Titus.V) awesome Tudor tutorial over on BrickBuilt.org which helped with a style I've never built in before.

And I would be silly not to thank my awesome wife who was happy to have a relaxed weekend on the couch while I tinkered away to meet the competition deadline :)

I was planning on going all out with lights to create this look, but actually managed to pull off the effect I wanted with a super diy approach. My downlight in my lounge was the mail fill, a LEGO Light Brick inside the Tudor section created the glow through the windows and on the alley wall, a laptop screen with a warm toned image cast warmth on the left building, and then just a little light painting with a phone screen to brighten up Newt and the Niffler. In hindsight that is quite a mouthful, but it was actually pretty easy and nice to work with contrast lights for a change (my studio work is normally 100% flash...).

I hope you like my new build :)

And please feel free to weigh in with any constructive advise if you want.

The Salford Quays lift bridge or Salford Quays Millennium footbridge is a 95-metre long vertical lift bridge bridge spanning the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The bridge, which was completed in 2000, is near the terminus of the ship canal at the old Manchester Docks. It links Salford Quays to MediaCityUK and has a lift of 18 metres, allowing large watercraft to pass beneath.

The bridge features prominently on the backdrop for the BBC North West Tonight television news programme, which also shows The Lowry and MediaCityUK.

Design

Designed by Carlos Fernandez Casado, the bridge has a main span of 95 metres in a Lohse Arch,[1] with the peaks of the twin arches connected at the crown. These brace one another, resulting in greater structural rigidity. The deck is connected to the arches with vertical members, which splay outwards at an increasing angle towards the centre of the span. The sweeping arches are decorated with coloured LED lighting, while the deck is illuminated with white downlighting. Pedestrians are protected from the prevailing winds by glass sides, coloured blue at foot level and tapering in, following the angle of the arches.

The lifting design utilises four white tubular steel space truss towers with concrete counterweights mounted internally on red carriers, although early plans envisioned spherical counterweights[citation needed]. These are suspended by cable over large grey wheels, mounted above decorative triangular maintenance platforms. The counterbalancing system allows the bridge to complete a raising or lowering through its 18 metre lift in less than three minutes. The outermost truss sections of each tower curve away from the main bridge at the base, tapering to a point, and each tower is topped with two decorative blue lights. The four towers have uplighting from the maintenance platform, although this feature has not been operational for some time.

The bridge has a 'sister' by the same designer, located in Plentzia, north of Bilbao, Spain. While slightly larger than its Salford Quays counterpart, spanning 108 metres over the Plentzia River, it does not lift and has no towers.

Construction

The bridge was built by Christiani & Nielsen as the general contractor, who coordinated a 'float-in' installation of the operable span with freight transport specialist Econofreight. The movable span was winched into place between the four support towers from a barge. The approximate cost was USA $7.5 million at the time of construction.

The deck is an orthotropic design, which is structurally more efficient than a concrete deck on top of steel deck beams. Orthotropic steel deck systems have begun to dominate movable spans in Europe because smaller towers and lifting mechanisms are required, using less energy to move them. Similar systems are used for welded steel ships and canal lock doors.

The lifting system itself was designed and installed by Bennett Associates, also responsible for the tilting mechanism on the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The system normally operates from the electrical grid, although it has a diesel backup system in case of a power failure.

Operation

The control tower is on the Salford Quays side of the ship canal, from where the pedestrian barriers and lifting mechanism are operated. Except for Royal Navy visits and dredging, most vessels entering the Salford Quays turning circle are pleasure craft, and are most commonly seen between April and October, when Mersey Ferries operate the Manchester Ship Canal Cruise service from Liverpool to Salford Quays.

Hey! - Taking on a different approach from elegance to a more sophisticated appeal,

a balance of harmony and symmetry which is measured throughout each Interior space.

That classic 1950's Art Deco sun lounge aspect, with a rich blend of modernism and traditional.

Soaring ceiling walls that complete with its large vast windows, bringing in amples of natural sunlight.

Wicker cane chair frames compiled with fresh neutral linen fabrics along with the tufted leather Eames chair setting off its early arrival of retro glam. Throughout the Kitchen

I have continued the main pallet with a soft warm white for the dullest of days, with lots of artificial light beaming across the countertops and highlighting the accented wooden teak trims that unite with the soft furnishings,

giving a connection to each space. A glass framed, marble subway splashback which is divine at it's most. Stainless steel appliances and faucets blend in without destroying the tasteful comprehending movement which aligns with the atmosphere.

In terms of the actual setup of the kitchen I've really wanted it to be a showoff for the home,

it's the true definition of a hearty home, whilst making it look impressive,

I've wanted to enter it as a very functional kitchen whilst still containing it's immersed looks.

Stepping over to the dining, I wanted the three spaces to connect with one another,

a large inviting gather for your guests to be pleased with the Tennyson bucket seats, to communicate with a whole.

A place to entertain, so in that matter I've chosen the dining to be an informal area, keeping it very simple,

that way it can be dressed up in any occasion whether a party or just a casual place to sit and gather around.

The Hilton chandelier is quite the accented approach where it's filled the room with a statement.

Credits for all spaces; please keep in mind that the kitchen is heavily modified and cannot be sold as is -

Though for one lucky person, if you're interested in this project and would like to have this kitchen fitted into your existing home,

that is something we can discuss, though I will only have this offer available until the 7th of March (AUSTRALIAN TIME.)
