This image is a bit difficult to explain. The area nearest the camera is a covered car park, the ceiling of which is the grooved panels at the top half of the frame. I'm looking into an office of some kind but with only these high windows allowing viewing access into it. On the wall of the office are these two downlights which is what attracted me to the composition. A bit of an unusual choice for a photo I know but there was something about it that I liked.

If you thought you saw this previously, this is taken from the opposite angle.

if, after reading my intro, you'd like to see how Flo is getting on, her new adopted family have opened up a stream here for Rob and I to enjoy: [https://www.flickr.com/photos/192292535@N03]

I was planning to share something else a bit more obscure now, but I just heard from her new family how she's doing.. and it's great and made me cry.

Bess is now Flow. Her new name.

Pete and Lilly, and half an hour later their full-of-beans-n-good-natured German Shepherd Kumar, and (Kelpi?) Perro, all met up with Bess a few days ago.

Ever since her first lead training day, my ignorant prejudices of Bess vaporised. She has fantastic eye contact, if you know how to get it. You know, if you get on her wavelength she'll follow you to the ends of the earth. Look into her eyes...

[ i have in my mind the memory of her in the front of their van being gently cuddled and subtly entertained by Lilly, lit in the dark by the downlight of their courtesy light, as they all reversed out of Rob's drive to their new life ]

Long story cut short for now, she or we could not have hoped for a better life for her than with her new family.

Rob knew it, as did I, when we met Pete, Lllly and their dogs.

Happy :-)

Rathaus underground station in Cologne, Germany

A pleasing contrast of midnight blue and silvery gleam

When completed, the new north–south suburban railway line in Cologne will have eight stops. While the last stretch of the line is scheduled to come into operation in 2016, Rathaus station has already proven itself fit for everyday operation. Located directly beneath the historic market, Rathaus underground station provides quick and convenient access to the centre of Cologne's historic Altstadt (old town) district, which was previously only accessible by bus.

The station, covering almost 3,000 m², lies 16 metres below ground. Its design is characterised by a fresh contrast of midnight blue and silver. A large proportion of the wall area is velvety-smooth blue, while the ceilings and certain sections of the walls are a shiny silver. The walls and ceilings are clad in hot-dip galvanised and powdercoated steel sheet modules, which are perforated in the ceiling area so that they also absorb sound.

Above the entrances, main traffic areas and footpaths throughout the station, WE-EF DOC240 recessed exterior downlights ensure excellent visibility and safety as well as aid orientation. The luminaires had to be integrated into various building situations – either installed in circular sections of the expanded metal ceilings or combined with an installation tube and mounted directly on the concrete ceilings. The DOC240 downlights in the underground station have proven to be versatile, not just in terms of the installation and mounting options, but also in relation to lighting techniques.

While the stairways and escalators are illuminated from a relatively high position, the height between floors in the main traffic areas is rather low. With different light sources in varying wattages – in this case HIT and CFL lamps, and two symmetric light distributions [M] medium and [EE] very narrow beam – the WE-EF luminaires provide exactly the right amount of light for the unique spaces.

All DOC240 downlights used in this project are fitted with vibration protection in order to extend their service life. Luminaires mounted at especially high installation positions are equipped with a device to lower the luminaire to facilitate ease of maintenance.

An exterior light at the back entrance of my office, turned on during bright daylight. To my surprise, the Green Lantern logo was beaming down from it, in white pixels. Darned if I know what the message is though.

Lovely big ball lamp shades all in a row in a restaurant.

Miniature type. We've had it for several years. Each autumn it comes indoors, looking dead, but then the magic begins again.

Shot using black card and just one of the kitchen LED downlights.

Downlight

Downlight - Streamers of light spilling through a gap in the clouds perfectly silhouette a straight row of trees at the foot of Pendle Hill on an otherwise overcast morning.

Archive raiding here - an unused and previously unprocessed image from my 365 project from several years ago.

It was a memorable few moments that I managed to capture and I recall it well. Seeing the gap in the clouds opening up a couple of miles away, I hoped that I get to the right vantage point in time for the light to hit the trees. I was rewarded with a handful of frames as the light graced the trees for a fleeting few moments as it moved across the landscape.

Inside the cheesegrater building, otherwise known as the SAHMRI (South Australian Health and Medical Research) building.

Amazingly, there is a different shaped building inside the glass outer skin.

Colorado Springs, CO - Stopped by an art installation located near the UCCS (University of Colorado Colorado Springs) campus called the "Windmill Project". It was created by the artist Patrick Marold. It consists of 2000 8' tall posts with wind-activated components that turn will on small LED downlights. These translucent poles will glow at night when the wind blows driven by the movement of the small windmills. It was a surreal experience walking around the installment and taking pictures.

From this angle, it looked to me as if thousands of spacecraft are launching into the atmosphere at the same time.
