My office at work is a beautiful room in a historic house (built in the mid-1800s) attached to the church building. It has unpainted wood trim, a large bay window, and the walls are painted a sunny yellow I picked out myself (I simply couldn't live with the seafoam green it was when I first started working here). I have let it get ridiculously messy over the last couple of years. I have had very limited office hours (particularly this year, when I am only in one afternoon a week), and it's hard to justify spending that time cleaning up. I know that's not a smart way to look at it. Oh, who am I kidding, the truth is that cleaning up, organizing, and staying on top of things is just something I struggle with. It actually seems to be getting worse as I get older!
Anyway, I had to find something yesterday, so I spent a good long time combing through all my files - half of which were in filing cabinets, but the other half of which were stuck in random piles around the room. I found many other things in my long search - a bag of books I bought in Italy 2.5 years ago and haven't opened since, a pack of pictures from my 10th high school reunion, and this book that I have been looking for at home for awhile. It's called Do It Now: Breaking the Procrastination Habit. Ah, irony, I love it when you sneak up and bite me like that.

So my hunt was successful. I will be moving into a different house in the Como Neighborhood later this year and living with 2 very nice new housemates who I had never met before Tuesday. I'm excited to still live with other people and to still be close to campus and all of my friends. The commute to and from work on the bus will be on the longer side, but I'm actually ok with this. I used that time as an intern to wake up in the morning and decompress in the evening. With the exception of the absurdly cold weather patterns, my last few days reaffirmed what I love about the Twin Cities and the people I know in them. It will be good to return here. Whilst waiting for the Megabus to arrive and take me home, I walked through the alumni museum in the McNamara Building. I had never actually looked around extensively before. It's a very neat trip through time that I would recommend all my fellow Gophers take at some point before graduating.
Bonus: There's a widescreen TV display inside the museum dedicated to the "Driven to Discover" campaign where you can watch the robots video.

ah, farewell cute little pink one story baptist church next door. R.I.P sweet lil' old reverend who used to lovingly sweep your roof off every saturday...waving to me in my pajamas with my cup of coffee...or saying hello to the kitties in the window. i could hear your singing choir every Sunday afternoon....hour after hour after hour. Sure, the double parked cars got me down once in a while....but you are sorely missed.
.....now i wake up to the lovely pre-dawn sounds of construction...(who issues a permit that allows that?) ...the building of a gigantic urban sandwich of condo upon condo...stretching up to the sky and blocking out the lovely patch of morning sunlight that used to decorate the floor and mark the perfect napping spot for my kitties.
