This is what I'd probably try to use in making a dog harness mod for my GoPro. From this side view, you can see that this pad is somewhat shaped for an easy fit for a head piece. I had not removed the old webbing in this photo, but I ground off the attachment brads from behind and they camer out easily, as did the old webbing pieces. I'll drill a 1/4" hole to insert a threaded set screw on top for a tripod camera mount. In addition, I'll add some 3M Dual Lock tape for quick mounting a camera.
For attaching as a dog helmet, think of how the Doggles straps are set up. I'll make a set of straps with that design in mind and the helmet assembly should then work with the dog not trying to shake it off as he/she walks about. This piece may look bulky in the pics, but it is actually very light weight and flexible to a great degree. Ditch the foam padding and it is really just right as a dog helmet mod.

We were at a country fete in Lurgashall, West Sussex. One of the attractions was a dog race; they lined up in all shapes and sizes. As soon as the Go! was shouted, most of the canine champs galloped up the 50 metre track. About 30 seconds later this intreped old girl followed in a bumbling gait, barking loudly as she went.
The original shoulder pad assembly before it was cut apart. Even the larger shell of what remains may be something that can come in handy for a camera mod idea. I won't toss it away, as I may find a good use for it later. The heavy cushioned pads in it certainly are nice for something, and they are held in place with Velcro straps.
Those brads that hold the pads in place on the heavy straps are not easy to remove. I have tried drilling them out and will probably end up grinding them off as the plastic pieces are put into a vise for brad removal.
For under $4 bucks at Goodwill, this piece has a lot of potential for DIY mod use.

This collar was hand –cut out of 3-4 oz. veg-tanned cow hide then holes were hand-punched and the collar was hand-dyed Saddle Tan. It measures 21” L X 1.25” W. Once this process was complete and the collar was dry, the Nickel Buckle, D-Ring, Snaps, and “Walking Liberty” Half Dollar Concho was added.
