"Os Echinodermatas (gr. echinos, espinhos + derma, pele) constituem um dos filos mais facilmente reconhecíveis do Reino Animal. Possuem endoesqueleto de placas calcáreas. Ocupam uma grande variedade de substratos, como rochas, algas, cascalho, sedimento arenoso ou recifes de coral.
A estrela-do-mar é um animal invertebrado. Em geral, tem forma pentagonal. Seu corpo compõe-se de um disco central, dotado de uma boca na região inferior, e cinco braços. O número de braços varia de família para família. O esqueleto apresenta formações como os espinhos, ou saliências, e pequenas pinças, as pedicelárias. Possui grande poder de regeneração: apenas um dos braços, destacado do animal, pode voltar a formar o organismo completo.
As espécies carnívoras predam sobre esponjas, bivalves, caranguejos, corais, poliquetas e outros equinodermes. Algumas são necrófagas, outras ainda alimentam-se da matéria orgânica e organismos microscópicos presentes no sedimento, ou ainda de partículas em suspensão. Quando capturam sua presa, os pés ambulacrários forçam a abertura da concha e a estrela literalmente projeta seu estômago para fora do corpo e para dentro da concha, onde inicia a digestão do molusco lançando enzimas. Posteriormente, o estômago e o conteúdo são recolhidos - característico das estrelas-do-mar carnívoras."

L'Universo è fatto di materia. Tuttavia la fisica e gli esperimenti hanno rivelato l'esistenza della cosiddetta anti-materia. In tutto e per tutto simile alla materia normale, in apparenza, dà origine a dei fenomeni sconcertanti: se fate avvicinare la materia e l'antimateria, spariscono istantaneamente... e si trasformano in onde di grande energia, che si allontanano alla velocità della luce... ma vale anche il viceversa: se si fanno "scontrare" due raggi di luce di grande energia, si può creare materia ed antimateria, così.. dal nulla...
Questa è una delle cose più straordinarie della Natura... la luce crea la materia ma anche il suo alter ego... come uno yin yang che si intreccia nel cosmo.
Ma è così lontana da noi, l'antimateria? Se qualcuno di voi ha mai sentito parlare dell'esame medico chiamato PET, ebbene... si basa proprio sull'utilizzo di positroni, piccole particelle di antimateria che permettono di esaminare, ancora più profondamente, la materia di cui siamo fatti...
La prossima volta che alzerete gli occhi al cielo, in un luogo buio, a guardare le stelle... ricordatevi anche di questo... se potete. So che... la materia è ostica, ma non per questo è meno affascinante

Driving through Sao Miguel we stopped at an overlook and came across this beautiful scene of Lagoa do Fogo. You can see the thick fog in the distance (common for the Azores). We were lucky enough to enjoy it and get some photos. About 5 min or so after we got out of the car and admired the beauty, the fog rolled in, FAST, leaving you with nothing to see but WHITE

"Shisen-dō (詩仙堂) is a Buddhist temple of the Sōtō Zen sect in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan. It is registered as a historic site of Japan. It stands on the grounds of its founder, the Edo period intellectual Ishikawa Jōzan (1583–1672), who established the temple in 1641.
A room in the main temple displays portraits of thirty-six Chinese poets. The selection of the poets was based on the opinion of Hayashi Razan. The portraits were executed by Kanō Tan'yū. This and some other parts of the building date to the time of Ishikawa Jōzan.
The temple's gardens are considered masterworks of Japanese gardens. One of them includes a device called a sōzu, a type of shishi-odoshi designed to scare away wild animals such as deer by making a loud noise. Water trickles into a bamboo tube, and when it reaches a certain level, it upsets the balance of the tube. The tube tips over on a pivot, discharging the water, and turns upright, striking a rock and emitting a loud clapping noise." (Wikipedia)

The falls have a height of 168 meters, making them possibly the highest accessible waterfall in Brazil and the second highest overall. A foggy splash surrounds the fall. In fact, "Itiquira" is a Tupi-derived word, meaning "drop of water", joining the words 'y ("water") and tykyra ("drop").
