Kader Attia - The Repair from Occident to Extra-Occidental Cultures by Charlotte Louise

Collection of repaired African objects (often with colonial materials such as buttons or shards) on one hand, and pictures of injured European soldiers after plastic surgeries. A disturbing mixture between an ethnological exhibition and a freak show. “By juxtaposing the repaired objects with these life-size wooden sculptures and with medical casts, he (Attia) asks fundamental questions about the different ethical and aesthetical concepts of ‘repair’, the Western illusion of perfection and post-traumatic healing.” (The Guidebook)

Highly interested in quantum physics but in no way capable of understanding scientific articles relating this matter, I read Zeilinger’s popular science, but still challenging book “Einsteins Spuk” - and was excited to see some of his mentioned experiments (for example the “double-slit experiment”) being reproduced for dOCUMENTA (13), with accompanying physicists answering the visitor’s questions. “I am not an advocate of constructivism, but I believe in the Copenhagen interpretation. According to the latter, the quantum-mechanical state of the world is the information we have about our world … it turns out that information is a crucial element of the world itself. It seems we have to kiss goodbye to the naïve belief that the world exists in itself, without being swayed by our doing and observation.” (Anton Zeilinger)
