The Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in Liverpool, England. Designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, it was opened in 1846, and was the first structure in Britain to built from cast iron, brick and stone, with no structural wood. As a result it was the first non-combustible warehouse system in the world.Today the Albert Dock is a major tourist attraction in the city and is a vital component of the UNESCO World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City. The docking complex and warehouses also comprise the largest single collection of Grade I listed buildings anywhere in the UK.

I found this old dock at the end of Major Blvd. in Lasalle. It was so pretty with the turning leaves all around, and the warm sunshine.

Portsmouth Historic Dock:- Part of Portsmouth Harbour and within the Royal Navy dockyard. I have been wanting to come here for years. My biggest want when visiting was to see HMS Victory. Well I did and cracked my head several times, but every smack was worth it. What a fantastic ship. But there was also The Warrior, Dock Cruise, Mary Rose exhibition. Sadly the Mary Roase cannot be viewed as they are building a new lottery funded building around her. There was of course the Royal Navy museum both past and present. It was a grand day out.

Mauricio, our boat captain crossed the dock. I loved the way his red top popped against the faded, geometric dock.

Begun in 1846, dock-warehouses were built over several years until 1841.

These first docks in France2 were used to store goods in transit such as cotton, coffee and spices. They survived the bombing of the Second World War. The buildings were rehabilitated and transformed by the architect Bernard Reichen. They are made of bricks, slates and cover glass.
