Dock and the mushroom

Eat it up, let's go home,

with a heart that's free to roam,

release the poison, let it go,

find peace within, let it flow.

Climb to the top of Signal Hill,

The search for peace, a journey to seek.

Let go of all that weighs you down,

Embrace the calm, let nirvana be found.

Now, everything does not matter anymore,

Free from attachment, like never before.

The present moment, your only concern,

In this state of bliss, you can forever burn.

With the cold whipping through the country today, I thought this golden hour photograph of abandoned docks might warm us up a bit. Caddo Lake, Texas, USA, November 2022

A view of Princes Dock taken early Sunday morning after the worst of Storm Darragh had blown through, though it was still very windy. On the right of shot can be seen HMS Prince of Wales one of Britains two Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.

Built in 1875, Sassoon docks is one of the oldest in India. It is one of the few docks open to the public. The fishing boats arrive in the morning and the dock bursts with colour and action.

Liverpool

Coburg Dock on the River Mersey, is part of the Port of Liverpool, being part of the southern dock system, with Queens Dock to the north and Brunswick Dock to the south.

The dock was named in 1840, in honour of Prince Albert. It had a 70 ft wide river entrance. It was enlarged 1858 and again in 1902. The river entrance eventually fell into disuse and was sealed up. The dock was used as a repair berth and for grain discharge, housing a 63,000 ton capacity grain silo. The dock itself fell into disuse and closed in 1972. In 1986 the grain silo was demolished.

This and the other docks in the southern system used to be owned by British Waterways, but ownership transferred to the Canal & River Trust, who still own it. Now regenerated part of the dock is set aside for moorings within Liverpool Marina. Mariner's Wharf, on the north quayside was built between 1989-97.

The apartments you can see on the left of the photo are mainly two bedroomed, they are available to rent for just short of £1000 a month.

There is always something interesting at the West Sayville Dock. I sat in my car to sketch this.

It's really Dock 9, but this gives the best viewpoint with that glorious sunset behind the BBC buildings that never seems to materialise whenever I go there. The '9' is embossed with anecdotes and witticisms from people who use to work in Salford Docks long before it became the media centre of the north.

At least I've bagged another of my planned shots for my "batter the Quays" project... only another 34 to go!

This incident appeared to involve a slow moving train of empty ore cars being pulled off Dock 6 and resulted in a delicate re-railing effort as the cars were over Interstate 35.
