(Gastrophysa viridula)
The length of the green dock beetle varies between sexes, with the males being 4 mm and the females being 7 mm. During the mating season, females have enlarged abdomens. Both sexes are green with a metallic shimmer, which, depending on the light, can be gold green, blue, purple, violet, or red.

It's really Dock 9, but this gives the best viewpoint with that glorious sunset behind the BBC buildings that never seems to materialise whenever I go there. The '9' is embossed with anecdotes and witticisms from people who use to work in Salford Docks long before it became the media centre of the north.
At least I've bagged another of my planned shots for my "batter the Quays" project... only another 34 to go!
There is a quality to the light in Cape Cod that amplifies the minimal spareness of the landscape. A stunning contrast to the riot of fall colour inland.
Workhorses of the orbital space-stations, docking barges were often overlooked and overworked. The ships were usually owned and operated by independent companies, who would paint them in distinctive colour schemes. Four examples are illustrated here.
Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God.

Designed by Jesse Hartley, Stanley Dock opened on 4 August 1848. The dock is the only one in Liverpool which was built inland, all the others being built out from the foreshore. The original quay warehouses are of a similar design to those at Albert Dock and are grade II* listed buildings. The warehouses were built to five storeys, covering an area of 12,000 sq yd (10,000 m2). Between 1897-1901, the southern part of the dock was filled in to build the large Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse by Anthony George Lyster. The northern warehouse has since been developed in to a hotel devoted to the White Star Line's RMS Titanic liner, which has strong links to the area's history of docks and shipping.

If it wasn't for Rudi, I'd stay home and watch University Challenge. The clouds on the horizon didn't look too promising but we went anyway. And it was glorious. I don't think the photo can show how marvellous those colours were!
