The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia is the second oldest institution of higher education in the United States, having been chartered by King William and Queen Mary of England in 1693. The college was originally comprised of three schools: Classical, Philosophy, and Divinity. The original campus, located on the west side of the historic city of Williamsburg, is the site of three original buildings: the Wren Building, the Bafferton, and the President's House. The College of William and Mary has been a public institution since 1906.
The President's House was constructed in 1732 and is the newest of the three structures on the "ancient" campus. The President's House is built in Georgian Style with bricks laid in flemish bond. It is a mirror image of the 1723 Bafferton building which stands across from it.
